I have a 24" imac and would love nothing more than to use it as a TV. I have a 21" tv which used to look pretty big in my small room, but the 24" screen on my imac makes it look absolutely puny.
I was at the local compusa recently and saw a small USB 2.0 device made by a company called elgato. It supposedly makes it possible to watch tv and cable on an imac. It also say you can play console games with it. Please keep in mind that I am a college student with a VERY limited budget. The elgato 2.0 costs around $109, which is ok. Anyone know of another device that makes my imac tv ready for a similar price?

Elgato Eye TV for DTT

Hi,

Here in the UK I use an Elgato Eye TV for DTT USB2.0 Stick. It produces excellent quality results and has a very useable export to Apple TV or Ipod function. Not sure of the US availability or cost, but would wholeheartedly recommend.

Thats the one I saw for $106. So far that is the one I plan on getting. I havent heard much about any other product in that price range though.

Elgato's eyeTV is an excellent device. My friend uses his iMac as his main television and saves money by using his Mac as a DVR. The software is seamless. I absolutely recommend it.

I believe what you saw was a great deal on an Eye TV Hybrid. I bought one a while back and paid 149. I lets you watch cable and ota HDTV on your mac. The software integrates with titantv and turns you mac into a great dvr. Search the forums for Eyetv Hybrid and you will find alot of threads about it. It really is a must have accessory for any apple!
