Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't have an Ipad yet, and I would like to know if this is possible. I've seen pictures of watching youtube video's while staying in portrait mode, and I'd like to know if this is possible too for the normal video's that are on the ipad, the ones you load through Itunes, such as music video's, tv-shows etc. Are you able to watch them in portrait mode too and if so, what exactly does it look like? What is the rest of the screen filled with and how big is the film screen.

Thanks! Can't wait till I get my Ipad.

Yes, you can watch in portrait, though I don't know why you would. Here's what it looks like...

You can. It looks exactly the same as when you are watching a YouTube video. The rest of the screen is black.

Great, thanks. Good to know it is an option.

What happens when you watch movies that have a really small resolution, like 400 by 200 or something like that? Will they be stretched to fit at least 1 corner of the screen?

I sometimes do this when watching low-res videos off the web in fullscreen - I'd rather see the vid smaller than blown up to reveal all the artefacts.

Also, when watching video with the iPad nestled in your lap or resting on your chest, the black bars raise the content to a more comfortable viewing position. This is also true in landscape, and another reason why 4:3 is indeed the correct ratio for the iPad screen. ;)

Video is always centered in the display area. (For example, in the browser, you can either have the address bar on top, or nothing but the video.)

It will always fill either the width or height (or both), depending on the aspect ratio of the video and the orientation of the screen.

For widescreen video in landscape, there is a button to zoom and fill the screen, cutting off the sides. There is no button in portrait, probably because it would cut off way too much.
