Is it possible to view xvid movies through Quicktime on intel Macs? I have home movies of my pets and vacations in xvid, but I can't get it to play through Quicktime, only in VLC, and I prefer Quicktime.

I looked inside /Library/Quicktime, and it seems there are the same components that are on my Powerbook G4, but the Powerbook G4 plays the xvid fine in quicktime.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Ok. I found out I needed to download a special Intel beta of divx 6. Now xvid plays fine.

Tnx.

I understand I could have googled myself, but since the OP already solved his own problem, I thought he might have provided the link to the solution.

Yeah, but I was interested in the solution myself! I've not actually downloaded it as there seem to be some reports of crashes in Quicktime with that beta installed.

The VLC Intel beta seems to work well for me...

We need a Porn section in the Guides to keep track of all codecs and media players, arn?

I like the pets and vacation excuse though. I kid. I kid. :)

Gr8!

I'll be getting my Core Duo Mac mini (lots of words for a such a little Mac :p ), next week, and be hooking it up to my TV. I would love Front Row to be able to view all of my movies (yeah... yeah.. some pRon could be floating around somewhere.... :D ), so I'm very interested in all the QT codecs I can get hold of.
But VLC is a superb little app for viewing MPEG 2 compressed HD movies I have, and anyother media files QT can't open.
I just hope the Core Duo is fast enough for 1080p movies MPEG 2 compressed to be played at 30fps.... we'll see.

Anyone able to get ac3 working on a consistent basis? I've tried both of the ones linked, and with both QT player just crashes when I hit play on a movie with ac3 5.1.

Just to one up you:

is the Intel non-beta 1.0 version.

At least the component part is a Universal binary, the DivX player is still PPC, but who cares about that eh?

Really? I looked round a bit and couldn't see it saying anywhere blatantly that it was Universal. Ok.. the component is all I use so.. :)
