Hi all, after iOS 5 made my original iPad grind to a near-useless halt and iOS 9 did the same to my iPhone 4S, I’ve been doubting on wether or not to install WatchOS 4 on my first generation Apple Watch later this year. I’ve got a paid developer account so I’ve been playing around with iOS 11 on my phone and iPad, and High Sierra on the MacBook Pro, and they’ve been wonderful, but I’m holding out on WatchOS because I’m afraid it’ll render it useless.
Can anyone tell me how slow or fast performance of the WatchOS betas is on the original Watch?

Been using it on a S0 stainless steel.

Speed like any other beta so the final will most likely be like WatchOS3 speed wise.

I have a series 0 and when I have a battery I don't notice performance issues - but I would wait until the next beta because a lot of folks (regardless of series) have serious battery drain issues - including me (and by serious my watch will go from 100% to below 10% in a matter of 3 hours)

Cheers,
B

Me too: good News: installing 10.3.3 on my connected iPhone resolved this: now Battery of Apple watch will last almost two days, what I was used to!

For the original Apple Watch series 0, does it support all watchOS 4 features such as passive heart rate monitoring?

I don't know if it supports passive heart rate monitoring (I keep my HRM off because my 38 MM is draining battery way too fast these days) but it supports all the other new features. I love the more personalized activity goal features.

Cheers,
Bobbie

I get passive HR monitoring on my S0 Sport, but no Resting HR, and no Average HR While Walking. Logging workouts does give a range for Workout HR and Recovery HR, and doing a Breathe or two will give you the Breathe HR and generate a HR Variability measurement.

Compared to OS3, I get a slight delay in asking Siri to do things on OS4 - "I'll tap you when I'm ready" appears more often than not, even with my phone in my pocket. However, I'm able to interface with the Home app, turning on lights and closing the garage door.

Right now, I'm not getting Stand or Breathe reminders, but I don't know if that's an OS4 thing or a S0 thing.

The first thing I did after installing the GM was to get rid of the honeycomb and go to the app list. The new workout screens are nice, and all the new watch faces are available on S0. I had a few days with higher-than-normal battery drains (low battery prompts in late evening), but after a few days running the GM, I still have 25-30% at bedtime.

It’s working with series 1 and higher, but not series 0. Can confirm by trying it by myself. It does take some time to show the first reading, but it does work.
