I updated my generation watch 4 (model A1978) to 9.4 yesterday morning, and it has been consuming the battery at an outstanding pace ever since. Is anyone else having this issue?

After the update the watch was warm to the touch, and had to shut it off before 10:30am as it was down to 8% battery.

Today with just under 5.5 hours of use it is down to 41%, it will be dead before I leave for home.

Battery health 88%, and until yesterday, it would be in the 30-40% range when I took it off in the evening

Had the same issue, then it went back to normal. Give it a couple of days and see if yours does as well.
Thanks for the reply. Sadly, no choice but to wait. Just got back from a 15 minute walk, and it is down to 31% percent. Likely turning it off for the day.

Just updated a new replacement series 5 today, and I’m getting same results. Seems to be flying thru battery. Wondering if I should unpair and setup as new watch? It made me update to 9.4 in order to sync

Did you do a soft reset? With the watch powered on, press the crown and button together at the same time. The watch will power down but keep them both pressed until it powers up with the Apple logo. I do that every week or so with my watches as with use they tend to get goofy sometimes. I would suggest charging it to 100% after doing this.

I have noticed battery drain issues too on an AW6 after 9.4.

I’ve tried re-pairing, and reboot and soft reset.

I have the LTE version and to be frank the dofference haveing the phone close and going phoneless isn’t that big concerning battery drain.

Vurrently tried to turn mobile data off (and will have to turn it on manually when I leave the phone) and see if it makes a difference.

So I have concluded that, for me, the battery usage issue is connected to the issue with the music app that stops updating the complication after a while for music playing off the phone (I’ve made a thread about it here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/music-corner-complication-not-updating-wos-9-4.2386812/ ).

For me battery usage is as before 9.4 until the music app carps out.

Restarting the watch resets the music app so complications shows what’s playing on your phone and battery drain is as expected for 1-2 days, then the music app/complication goes down the ******* and the battery drain starts.

That’s probably why the battery drain was ”normal” for instances when I’ve gone phoneless since the music app/complication has no phone to communicate with.
