I’ve always been curious in regards to this, I always swap the batteries myself and re-seal it with obviously third party adhesive. Obviously I know it’s compromised and not truly water resistant anymore but hey every little helps.

What does the Apple store do however? Do they have access to specialist equipment that does it automatically to the standard of when it was new? Is it basically something identical to a kit you’d find on eBay and you’ve just got to hope the employee applies it correctly?

Anyone got any insight on this?

I dont have any insight info, but I feel as soon as the phone is opened and repaired, water resistance is gone for good. I doubt Apple Genius Bar guys reapply those adhesives and glues after finishing repairing.
