Hi folks,

If my stereo equipment is in a closeted room to my right with the screen in front of me, is there a way to control the AppleTV's photo slideshow functions using my iphone or an ipod touch?

ie. not using the apple remote.

I ask b/c we'd rather not have to point the remote at the ATV considering it will be behind the closted room where all the equipment is.

Cheers,
Keebler

How about using the remote app on your iPhone? That's what I use for my movies and music, but have not tried it with the slideshow, but it should work the same. (WiFi connection required, of course.)

thanks dustoff. i was in a hurry and didn't mention that I want to use the remote app. I don't think it can control the slideshows. i'm not at home so i can't turn everything on to see if it works...doh!

It doesn't have an actual 'slideshow' function built in, no. But the Remote app can give you a contorl surface where swiping is pretty much the same as hitting left or right on the remote and tapping it is like hitting enter.

So I've never tried it with the slideshow, but I bet thet it will work.

If the remote app won't cut it Rowmote will AIUI.

Requires minor hacking of the ATV but then the basic version turns your iPhone/Touch into an Apple Remote.

Not got round to it yet but seriously considering the pro version for my MacMini HTPC.

I just tried that and it works great. You just tap the "Control" button at the bottom of the Remote app's screen, then tap "menu" to simulate the Apple remote's menu button. Swipe to the right to bring up the Photos menu, then swipe up/down/left/right to navigate and tap to select.

Cool!

Let me know how the pro version is. Looking for something to control my MBP, when connected to my TV. Don't really want a wireless keyboard, since it won't be regularly used with mt TV.
