iPhone Way to downgrade iOS on iPhone 5 (in order to jailbreak)

My friend purchased an iPhone 5 (US, CDMA model) from eBay but we are in New Zealand.

First step is that I need to jailbreak it. It's currently got iOS 6.1.4 installed and from what I can gather it needs to be on 6.1.2 or earlier to be jailbroken. Is that right?

It was on 6.1.4 when he got it, is it possible to downgrade somehow?

Your friend has plenty of time untill the deva find a jaulbreak which will take at least 4 months from now
