Has anyone discovered a way to do a fresh install of public beta 1? Since there is no IPSW you can't do a recover through iTunes.

Since you can't download an IPSW I don't think there is a way to fresh-install. I just restored my iPad through iTunes, set it up as new, then installed the beta. Not the cleanest way, but I'm sure it's better than the alternative which was just installing it over everything I had before.

This sounds like the best alternative to this. Past public betas have been fairly stable on me, but I am doing everything in my power to make sure that backups are done and things are set up just right before updating...

I'm curious. Does this have the same effect when it comes to the system install as doing a restore in iTunes?

Well no, because iTunes actually extracts the software that's on the device and then reloads a clean version, so nothing but iTunes can replicate that. But erasing the device gives you a clean slate.
