Ways to save space on macbook air?

Hi,

Just wondering what I can do to free up space on the macbook air? Someone suggested removing other languages, but not sure how to do that. Also I don't use imovie or garageband, only iPhoto.

If you really want to save space, you do a custom install and eliminate the additional languages, the iLife apps you don't use, etc.

Otherwise, you can simply delete the applications you are not using, and make sure to dig into the library for the associated files.

what about the way itunes syncs with the iphones and ipads? They always put the apps on the computer itself, is there a way of disabling that?

Also I would recommend using the trial version of Daisy Disk to see whats going on graphically

Download "Monolingual" and erase the PowerPC arcitecture and the languages you don't use. Saved me about 2.5 GB. Garage Band takes up a lot of space too, I think at least 1.5 GB, you can Google around on the most efficient way to remove the application along with it's support files.

Go through your iTunes folder. I went through and organized mine a couple of months ago. I was able to eliminate a good 25GB of data just because of duplicates and old material.

Basically, to sum it up, delete everything that you aren't using. I'm assuming you only have 64 gigs of space; if so, you're going to need every gig. Go through your applications and delete all of the apps that you don't use. Go through your iTunes library and delete all of the songs and videos that you don't listen to/watch either.

The Air isn't really meant to hold a ton of files, hence the reason people state that it shouldn't be one's "main" computer. If you have the cash, go to the store and find a good external harddrive. that will let you put all of the media files you have on that to save as much space as possible.

Ultimately you aren't going to have a lot though. 64 is an extremely small number to have as a computer's harddrive today; just make do with what you have.
