Ways to speed up Leopard Server?

I want to try to squeeze all the speed I can out of my PowerMac server running Leopard Server. What are some ways to make sure it is as fast as can be?

I read somewhere that disabling some "cache" in Server Admin would speed things up, but I can't find that.

I post this because my new Mac server seems a tad slower than my POS Dell from 1999 running Ubuntu Server.

Depends...

This very much depends on what you want to do with your server.

For example, if you use it as a database server with the bundled MySQL, the #1 thing to do is to "sudo cp /usr/share/mysql/my-huge.cnf /ect/my.cnf" and restart MySQL.

This does things like allocates memory for query caching, which is essential for proper db performance. The default is to use as little memory as possible, which is good for conserving system resources, but sucks for performance.

Basically, Leo Server comes with factory settings to allow everything to be enabled and work at the same time. Usually this equates to very conservative defaults for every service. When you know which services you will be using, you can do things like bump the MySQL caching to dedicate system resources for that particular service to give it a performance boost.

Max out the ram. Do SATA RAID.

Perhaps get a refurb mac pro?
