Hi all,

I recently bought a WD Blue 3.5" HDD 7200 RPM and put it in an Orico HDD Enclosure to make it an external drive. However, when I turn on, the drive create a very annoying low frequency humming noise and it's pretty loud. I have never experienced that with my old Samsung drive in the same enclosure (the Samsung drive has slower RPM). I'm wondering what is the reason for this. Is that normal or my new drive is faulty. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

Just be happy that it's humming and not scratching or screaming!

If you touch the case and apply a little pressure when it's running, does the sound change?

I'd suggest experimenting with a small piece of cardboard or cloth between the drive and the enclosure, adjusting "the fit" so to speak. Or perhaps a few of those small, circular "stick on" rubber feet that you can buy in stores?
