WD My Book Duo Dual Drive as JBOD without encryption?

I received the Western Digital My Book Duo as a holiday gift and am wondering if I can make it work with my Mac by reformatting and using in JBOD configuration without hardware encryption. I'd want to be able to remove the drives from the WD enclosure and use them on their own if I ever needed to.
