So: following Macrumors' suggestion to download the Sonoma Beta I attempted to enroll in the Developer program for free, and repeatedly get this: "

We are unable to process your request."

I have tried both with the BRAVE browser and with SAFARI.

Could this be because I am outwith the United States?

Possibly? I would suggest manually navigating to the Apple Developer Portal and going from there. At least you can rule out some things like if it’s a regional thing. To be honest, I’ve not seen anything about there being an issue signing into the Dev Portal, and I’ve tried signing in while connected to a VPN and spoofing my location. It’s much more likely the issue is happening on your machine and not outside of it.

Also, where did you see anywhere that MacRumors was suggesting to download it?

Gotcha.. I'm just thinking, from a liability standpoint.. Like if MacRumors was actually suggesting that people do upgrade to a beta 1 of a new OS, and it looks like they're not:

Should I Install macOS Sonoma Developer Beta?

Before downloading the update, it's worth noting that Apple does not recommend installing the macOS Sonoma Beta on your main Mac, so if you have a secondary Mac that has no important data on it, use that. This is beta software, which means there are often bugs and issues that pop up that can prevent software from working properly or cause other problems.

With that caveat in mind, the steps in the remainder of this article show you how to get macOS 14 betas on your Mac. First though, check that you have a compatible Mac.

FWIW, I'm going to use the instructions from here to upgrade from a USB Installer. Although I just have the option, too, under Software Update due to being logged in with my Dev Account.

*I'd like to add that MrMacintosh's headline states "5 Minutes", but you're downloading a 13GB Installer .pkg file so YMMV

I'd also like to add that, there have been at times some "regional issues" with a "developer beta 1" release. Apple currently only shows the .ipsw file on the Dev Portal, although MrMacintosh has the link to Sonoma on Apple's CDN Servers... sooo... Why not just post the link on the Dev Portal to the .pkg file, Apple, huh??

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Apple are rarely helpful: and they are NOT releasing beta version of their operating system because they love us [Mind you, looking at Craig F's hairstyle I don't mind that that much].
