We need more intelligent widgets.

I wish the widgets could be made a bit more intelligent in iOS. For example, I have the reminders widget near the top of my screen as if I have reminders I want them to be one of the first things I see.
However a lot of the time I don’t have any due reminders so a large potion of my widgets page is taken up with a big box that just says “no upcoming reminders”.
It’d be nice if widgets like this could automatically hide when they have no relevant/active content. Same could be said for the up next and calendar widgets, as well as ones like maps destinations.
This would enable me to then be shown more relevant content from widgets that I normally have to scroll for.

Adaptive I think is the word you are looking for. And I agree, if no results that day (reminders and calendar) the widget should auto collapse and expand when there is content. No need to take up a vertical inch displaying nothing.

Great idea. I also wish you could interact within the widget itself instead of the widget opening the app. For example the was a widget Neato where you could take a quick note in the widgets screen. If a widget going to use the app I might as well open it myself.

That's what I hate about a lot of the stock widgets. For example, the Fantastical widget is awesome and you can actually scroll through day by day event right in the widget without opening the app and mark reminders synced from the Reminders app as done right in the widget.

Just seems not much has been done with the potential of widgets still

good example:
in iOS 10, when you used apple's Smart Battery Case there was a magically appearing widget that stayed in the widget area to show you the battery levels for both the Smart Battery Case itself, as well as the iPhone's battery.
but in iOS 11, when you slip on the same Smart Battery Case, there is a Notification on the screen, but this goes away as soon as you unlock the phone and it doesn't appear in the widgets area at all.

another example of a good current widget is an app called Walker. this app uses the M10 and M11 co-processor to count steps directly and keeps updating the widget with the latest steps count directly from the co-processor. apple's Health app and most other steps counters have tremendous lag until the time that steps show up in many of those apps.

Sounds like something the Siri watch face should have been - a digital assistant capable of showing me contextually-useful information throughout the day. Instead, all I get are my calendar events and the random selection of photos here and there.

Agreed. I was quite excited when I heard about it. It has surprised me with the odd useful thing when I’ve glanced it but I was hoping it would be a lot more. Hopefully they will expand and improve upon it in the future.
