It’s different from dark mode which still have background tint. It makes the top truly black. Besides, not everyone is on dark mode.

I just tried it. I actually prefer the transition effect of the wallpaper in the menu bar. The black bar stands out even more. I rather have the black notch and the background shown to its right and left than a completely black bar covering the whole top of the screen but maybe that is just me.

I do like the round corners however.

I’m surprised there isn’t more ire about rounded corners. In a way, they’re the equivalent of four corner notches in that they block screen area that “could” be available sans notch.

Plenty comments but no one answered your question. No the menu doe not go black in Dark mode, It becomes a color based on your background. If the background has a bunch of black at the top, it'll likely be black. With the default Monterey wallpaper, it's a purplish color.

Maybe there's a setting, but I've not found it.

The app looks like a nice option.

Have the 14" for under a day and already forget this thing exist.

I think first world problems cripple society and perfectly illustrate how unnecessary focus on useless stuff creates problems that don’t exist. “notchgate” is a great example.

First reaction can be anything but as some people on this forum keep reacting with anger or absolute delusional behavior towards a non issue, it should be a concern to everybody lol.
Only kudos here go to the developer. He/she should charge though. Make profit till people realize that non issue is a non issue lol
