forecast bar. had it for years, sits discreetly in the menu bar (and has a very-customizable dropdown menu). it's my only subscription app, but (for me) is well worth it.

Not an app:
I like wunderground.com:
Set it up so that it opens to the "10-day forecast".

To supplement, I set up (not part of wunderground) a page for the US national radar:

I'm in the northeastern USA, so I also set up a URL for regional radar:

A setup like this works far better for me than any weather "app" I've seen.

I use DarkSky.net and keep it as a favorite on new tabs. It's better than any Weather apps available for the Mac.

Seasonlity Core. Expensive I know($25) set it up in it's own desktop and scroll back and forth between desktops when looking at the weather. Just updated it for Apple silicon too. Been using it for years.

All you need is the NWS site, radar for current conditions and a short range forecast. Anything more than 2 days out is wild speculation. But if you need your cartoons and ads to know what's going on, I'd recommend any network TV weather app.

I was running Windows 10 in VirtualBox for a while just to run their Weather App but it was consuming too much screen space. Using an old iPhone is not a bad solution - I just wish that it had wind speed in the hourly forecast.

Meteorologist is perhaps the best option so far, especially in terms of balance and utility. I've tried many and a few are "pretty" yet they lack real useful function.

I used to be in love with (still am and miss it very much) a very simple tool called "Radar In Motion" and have been hunting for a replacement for several years: https://softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/questions/4284/radar-in-motion-widget-options-for-windows

Radar In Motion was a light Dashboard widget that pulled radars in and one could simply select a radar view port or three from various regions of interest or around your region and have a very quick at-a-glance view. I had several family members who were also in love with it. It helped us to always know the weather in our regions of very frequently changing weather. It was the BEST there was and I would also love to find a replacement that could come close.
