ok im trying to avoid winterboard

I install weathericon from the david ashman source

The weather icon is showing the temperature correct

but it looks like this

35ksrih.jpg

see the sunny weather icon^

But I want it to be transparent

liek this

photo-7.jpg

on this guide they give you the transparent png file and where to put it

Then, naviagate to Library/Themes/Weather Icon.theme/Icons/ directory and replace Weather.png with the icon you want.

But I dont have that waethericon folder in my phone

can anybody tell me how to do this?

So you make a new folder called Weather Icon.theme.
Then you can put the stuff in the folder.

Or you can make one on your desktop called Weather Icon.theme, then open it, add the files, then drag and drop that Weather Icon.theme folder into the phone by SSH.

I did this but still showing the sunny icon not transparent

I put the transparent icon in the folder

is there any other way?

I believe it should. Did you check if you turned on the theme in winterboard? Also, your first image showed TheWeatherChannel and the second shows weather. Which one are you using?

If it's the weather channel, you might have to rename it to TWC.png or TheWeatherChannel.png (I'm not sure which is the name)

the second screenshot is one i took from another board not mine, I want mine to look liek that

Well there's your problem. Anything under Themes folder must be activated with Winterboard in order to work.

so theres no way to make this transparent?

the weather is workin fine thou

I found this in another board but the post is a few months old from may

For those desiring to NOT use Supreme Preferences and Winterboard, the attached /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.ashman.WeatherIcon.plist includes the switches (ShowStatusBarTemp and ShowStatusBarImage) needed to activate the status bar temperature and/or image. Works with WeatherIcon v1.8.7 & v1.8.10

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

	<key>Location</key>

	<false/>

	<string>com.apple.weather</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Notes:
Simple true/false settings activates/deactivates options.
To use a different location from the default Weather.app:
-- Change OverrideLocation from false to true
-- Change Location from 00000 to your zip code

Update to prior post: No 'SafeMode' crashes today :):):)

If the app that you want to change is TheWeatherChannel App, then I can't help you as I don't know the name of it. However, if you want to change the icon manually, you can go to root, then go to Applications, then open the Weather.app. Inside, there should be an Icon.png. rename that to Icon.png.backup, and then drag the Transparent Icon to the same folder. Rename the transparent Icon to Icon.png, fix permissions, and then respring.

this didnt work

it made the weather app that came with iphone blank them when I switch to that in weathericon settings it made it sunny not transparent :(

Oh, I'm sorry then. I'm used to winterboard and I haven't edited themes by hand since before 2.0 days. I have no clue then.

Before doing so, you might want to go back and put the backup as the original icon in Weather.

I did thanks

I uninstall weather icon cause i dont have time for this now, gotta work in the mornin but im gonna keep trying later on today

and if anybody knows how to do this without winterboard please post :)

Well, I checked the WeatherIcon page (http://code.google.com/p/weathericon/), and as far as I can tell, the only way to manipulate the background is through WinterBoard Themes. The plist you copied above is just for setting the temperature display (location, celcius/faurenheit, etc), and the other plist for manipulating icon images need to be part of a winterboard theme. :(

Che Castro -- I have WeatherIcon installed and themed no problem WITHOUT using winterboard. Here's a screenshot:

All Winteboad does w/r/t WeatherIcon is load the theme files in SpringBoard.app. So, what you need to do to theme weathericon without Winterboard is to install the necessary files directly into SpringBoard.app on your iPhone.

Detailed steps:

1. Install WeatherIcon
2. Download the WeatherIcon theme you want from Cydia. If the theme lists Winterboard as a dependency, the easiest thing to do is to install Winterboard, download the theme, and then uninstall Winterboard.
3. SSH or use DiskAid or similar to navigate to Library/Themes on the device and copy the weathericon theme to your mac or pc.
4. Make sure the theme folder has the following files:
- com.ashman.WeatherIcon.plist
- Weather0.png through Weather47.png and some may have separate day and night files (these are the weather images).
- Weatherbg_night.png and weatherbg_day.png (these are the Icon images)
5. Copy all of the files from the theme folder into System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app
6. Activate WeatherIcon and choose settings in Preferences.app (Settings) -- this includes the ability to choose a different app from the standard weather. HOWEVER, you have to set your location in the standard app or set a zip code in the plsit from step 4.
7. Tweak location of temperature, size of weatherimages, etc., by editing the plist file from step 4 above.

I followed all your steps but when I got to 4 the weather png's from the theme I got Klrear weather icons had different names then the Ones you posted, there was another theme called Katra that had the png's with the names weather 1,2,3..., but I wanted the klear one

also I did not understand step 6 & 7 can you explain that?

also I had to remove the night and day PNG's and put this one in instead
http://modmyi.com/images/sayam/Weather.png
Its the clear one

another question

tell me what settings you have chosen for these on yours

refresh every ? on mine i have it on 30 minutes how about you?

use local time ? I have this set to off

override location ? I have this set to off

how about you

and last question does this drain your battery faster or it has minimul effect?

Glad you got it working.

I use the Katra Icons, so I'm not sure about the Klear ones. But, from your screenshot, it looks like you got the Klear ones working, right?

I just meant that you should configure the seetings normally. Looks like you've got it.

You're right -- If you want a clear background, you just need one icon. I use a different icon for day and night, that's why I have Weatherbg_night.png and weatherbg_day.png

15 minutes, off, off

It must use a little extra battery, because it has to go online and get an update, but it's not too bad

spamdumpster show me a picture of how yours look like, the one you posted in your first post doesnt work

and If I restore my iphone is that going to ge rid of the pngs I put in the sprinboard.app folder or will i have to go in there manually and remove it?

from step five
5. Copy all of the files from the theme folder into System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app

See if this screenshot works. And, yes, if you restore, you have to put the files back.
