So decided to run a battery test comparing web browsing vs movie watching.

The settings were push, fetch, location services all turned to off. Brightness about 40% and wifi always on.

In my previous safari only test I got roughly 10 1/2 hours of safari only usage.

Yesterday decided to load up a blu-Ray digital copy of dark knight. I had the battery at 52% and I let the movie play 2x in a row. That's 5 hours straight of movie playing (cut out a few minutes of credits to get even 5 hours). At the end of this the battery was at 13%.

So within the 5 hours it drained 39%. That's 19.5% every 2 1/2 hours of movie. Which in turns out to be roughly 13-13 1/2 hours of continuous movie playing.

So it turns out web browsing and just simply playing around on the ipad drains it faster.

Next test is a full gaming test.

In other news, head of Church of Rome declared Catholic, and large mammal native to North America found defecating in woodland.

Your scientific methodology is a little off there. The battery meter is not a Swiss watch. To effectively compare usage you'd need to start from a full battery and end with an empty one. Extrapolating from relative % ranges is a good guesstimate but nothing more.

However, the more stuff you engage on the iPad the quicker the battery drains. So active Wifi usage is going to be greater than no Wifi usage. Active 3G will be greater than Wifi. Active 3G + GPS greater still. All things being equal though, watching movies, reading books, playing games - without accessig Wifi or 3G will give you roughly the same (and longest) battery life.

Well DUH!!!

Think of it this way surfing the web is like city driving and watching a movie is like highway driving.

Bumper to bumper rush hour traffic vs 75mph+ on the Interstate 5

Agreed. Regardless of which, internet browsing used screen and wifi where as video mostly uses screen only. It speaks for itself.

I've tried using the book app (was using the Winnie pooh book) and noticed that the battery was being drained the same amount as when I was using the ipad for safari only. Strange

you have WAY too much time on your hands

Because turning on a movie and coming back 2 1/2 hours to restart it is so time consuming and difficult. Yeah so difficult and time consuming.:rolleyes:
