Looking to buy a web cam to stream video of my child (via Evocam)

I know the iSight is nice but it is pretty expensive.

Any other suggestions on mac compatible camera??

Check out this cheap software, then get one of the supported webcams. It works quite well.

As stated in my post I am looking to stream the cam NOT use iChat.

I am not looking for software (thought what you posted is slick), I need a recommendation on a mac compatible camera. I have no problem getting an iSight just curious if there are any other options.

After a quick google for Mac Webcam (I'm slightly interested in a webcam for myself but the iSight is *way* overpriced) I found this sourceforge project, it lists all the supported webcams here

PS this is totally unrelated but I really like the fact that your text isn't lost if you press back then forward again while posting (unlike Yahoo! Mail  )

Am I to believe that there are NO ther webcams (other than iSight) that will work with a mac out of the box??

I really dont want to use a 3rd party hack/driver in order to use a web cam.

There has to be a Logitech or some other cam that will work with OS X out of the box.

I'm sure there are (for example See this one., but its not very good...) But tbh, I'd just look on Amazon if you want one that works 'out the box' click on the technical details link to see if it's Mac compatable.

how about Mac to PC on LAN

doews anyone know of a software that will allow Mac to PC video conferencing on a LAN....not using AIM, Yahoo or MSN.

I'm using Microsoft Netmeeting between PC's, but would like to use a Mac as well.

With Netmeeting I can also broadcast a presentation from PowerPoint at the same time.

Any suggestions?

Look at this site

http://www.evological.com/evocam.html

They have a large list of supported cameras. I would sudgest you look into a network camera. I've been wanting a Axis camera, but there way too expensive for me right now. Currently, I have a 2 camera system, running on a PC. It uses propriatory technology, and BNC cables/connectors. The network style is soo much better. You can even run power over Ethernet, to avoid needing to run two cables.

[Edit}, sorry, I just saw you already know about Evocam. Again, I would sudgest a network cam. Also, you'd better have a good broadband connection, unless you are just going to watch frames (as opposed to full streaming video)
