Web Gallery Publishing Software

Hi all,
I shoot mainly wedding and portrait and have just moved from film to digital (Canon 5D). Whilst I am looking to purchase Aperture, as I understand it, it only generates standard HTML galleries for the web.

I would like to hear from any professional or semi-professional photographers who use other software for web publishing. I am looking for something a little more flashy (excuse the pun) perhaps that incorporates flash programming that would be easy for a photographer to implement onto their website.

Also, links to other photographers websites with flash would be useful.

Has anyone developed their own software for this application?

I'm pretty sure PSCS does this, but I'm certain that PSCS2 does this, although again I think it is mainly an html output. There may be other applications in the Creative Suite that could help you out (i.e. perhaps GoLive can take in the gallery PS outputs and somehow 'flash' it up). I'm not sure as I have never done this before, but it seems plausible/feasible.

It's not Extensis Portfolio, for sure

This has been my greatest pain and I think I'll be writing my own utility to put things together. I wish I had a mid-1990s team from Borland because they would be so good at this.

The Photoshop web gallery automation is safe but doesn't really do a good job and isn't very configurable.

I bought Extensis Portfolio after reading reviews about how great it was at keeping track of galleries and making them easy to publish to disc or web or to print proof sheets. I got it in their Photo bundle so everything was reduced in price by 50 %--thank goodness.

I've created a few web galleries from the Portfolio galleries but Portfolio insists on my desire to share my full resolution originals with the world. Therefore, I have to manually have to delete those, copy the mid-level resolution files and rename them to match the expected name. This is easy, right?

The other day, I went to access some photos in a gallery that were within a folder that had been renamed. Portfolio told me that I'd have to locate them but from my perspective they had not moved. This would still be okay, if it had allowed me to locate the whole of them at once, but that wasn't possible. Did I want to select 200+ photos one at a time? No. It's easier to re-create the gallery.

It's time for a real change. It's time that I use a bit of my development skill, learn CSS, and write some code to manage combining photos and HTML.

Have you guys looked at some of the opensource PHP photo gallery alternatives?

My favorite is Gallery. It takes a little knowledge to setup, but if you have a webhosting company with PHP/MySQL support, its a pretty neat setup.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I thought I would suggest it.
