Web Hosting Questions!!! Please HELP

Hello,
I am trying to start an e-commerce website. I have never done this before and I'm trying to get some ideas for different companies that offer web hosting packages. Can anyone tell me some good sites to research that are cheap and reliable.
I also will be building a website for this company using Dreamweaver 8 and I have NO training in this at all. Can anyone offer some suggestions? I know I can do it, just haven't had the time to sit and go over the program yet. Someone who has been through this, I would love to pick your brain! Thanks for any help.:D

Dreamhost offer a lot for your money and I'm very happy with them. A Small Orange are also very good and offer great service.

As for learning Dreamweaver, maybe try signing up for a course. Check outLynda.com for video tutorials, it costs a fee but a lot of people find this easier than trying to learn from a book.

I second the recommendation for Dreamhost. I have used them for a while now, and recommend them to people I do web design for. They have good prices with generous bandwidth and disk space limits, and they seem like a good company.
 
Having an e-commerce site is a lot of work to get going and it will be stressful finding the right providers for the services you might want to offer. There is a lot more to it than building a web-page in Dreamweaver.

You will of course need a website hosting provider, which will probably be the easiest service provider to pick-out. Since you will be selling items or services online make sure your hosting provider will help you set up a secure server for transactions - most do.

You will also need a Merchant Account (to accept major credit cards) and a Payment Gateway which connects your shopping cart to the Merchant Account.

You could of course use PayPal, but you may loose customers who either don't have an account or don't want to sign-up for an account. I recommend PayPal to people who are just starting out and want to test the water before setting up a merchant account.

Be careful selecting your merchant account provider because there are a lot of companies who might be offering you a good deal up front but they will end up raising their fee once you sign up. I know this from experience.
