I have a windows box sitting around that runs XP and I would like to set it up as my web server. I have absolutely NO knowledge of Apache or anything web hosting. What I need is a simple app that will let me host to my external IP address. Like I said I have no knowledge of these things so it should be something that a 5 year old can figure out. So are there any free programs out there like the one I have described?

--Thanks

BTW: I am hosting a iWeb site.

Install and run Wamp5 on it, it cant be easier then that.
It will install: Apache, PHP4/5, MySQL database, phpmyadmin all in one go.
Even my grandmother could set up a webbserver with this.

http://www.en.wampserver.com/

If you have a router or firewall you will have to do a portforward but that is not so hard and it would be listet how you do that in your manual of the firewall/router or whatever you have.

Not easy enough, It installed and it's sitting in the task bar but it wont let me install Apache services. Also I have put the iWeb site in the www folder but when tell it to open localhost it just brings up a page saying that the apache site was not found.

Just from the menu in the task bar, I click on Install Services (under Apache) and nothing happens.
Apache is installed right from the start, you should not install any services.
Just install the wamp exe and put your files in the www directory and the localhost should work.

If you got an apache error make sure you have pressed "start/resume apache services.

Again, you should not press the install service text.

Is both start and stop greyed out? Seems a little bit od.

Does it not look like this? www.x-per.se/temp/wamp.jpg ?`

Tried to restart all services?
Nope, it looks like this (Image attached).

And yes I have tired restarting all services.
