Okay, i've got this FREE webcam from somewhere. It doesn't seem to have any bundled software for the Mac but it does with windows. Anyway to TRY it out to see if it works with the Mac? Is it only iChat that can use webcam in Macs?

I would use that program, it allows iChat to use USB webcams. Works decently well with my pc's 3com webcam. It should detect it automatically, if not you can download one of their "generic" drivers; but in past experience it worked but would generate green lines trough the image if you do that.
