I want to be able to video chat with my friends (a bunch of them got macbooks for college), but my G4 does not have an isight camera. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a fairly inexpensive webcam to do the trick for my powerbook.

Thanks in advance.

the xbox vision cam for xbox 360 works well and is 40$. It does not have integrated mic, but that is not a problem b\c the pb does already.

I was looking at some logitech ones but none of them seem to support osx...

I'm new to the whole webcam thing so I'm not sure if this is a big issue or no.

I just use my video camera using firewire. It is the absolute best quality you can get for a webcam. I got a little tripod that sits on my desk.

My experience is that a Logitech webcam will work - I just plug and played with a QuickCam ultra vision. But the quality is not great - not because of the Mac issue - it's just that USB webcams - even one like the $129 ultra vision just aren't that great. My comparison is my Sony handicam firewired in to my powermac - which is what I'm going to use instead. That said - it works - you just won't want to blow up the picture that much. I'm going to send the logitech to my father on the other coast so that he can use iChat and see his grandchildren.

I am still amazed that Apple hasn't replaced iSight.

For that same reason I'd echo the XBox recommendation... if it's going to be basic anyway, might as well get the one that costs $30 or so. :)
