iOS Webkit, web apps, web?

I know virtually nil about webkit and web based applications and am trying to find out if it is possible to create a webkit application that can access the media files on an iPhone / iPod Touch.

Is this possible?

If you're referring to the iPod media files, it's not possible at all (through public APis) in pre-3.0 software. As for accessing it from a web page, you would need to provide the Obj-C objects available to your web view, which AFAIK, from a quick glance at the docs, this isn't possible yet (it's possible on OS X, it just looks like they haven't integrated that API into the iPhone yet).

So no, I don't think it's possible right now. I'd download the latest 3.0 SDK and look through the docs on UIWebView to double-check though.

I mean can the application access media files in its own sandbox to play video / audio. I am not referring to trying to access iTunes library material.


On another note do you know if it is the case that Webkit projects also require provision licence to get it on a device.

Is the AppStore the only way to deploy on mass with no licence guff?
