Hi all,

Can you take a look at a mock up index.html page for my site please and let me know any thoughts.

None of the links are live at the moment as it's in it's early stages. I've taken the old site down now, ready for the new but would like your thoughts.

I like it, but it would be cleaner if the two verticals shown here matched up:

Yeah, i noticed the two verticals not lining up too, will be changed on the final site.

Tried lining them up, but the thing is, as it uses CSS, whenever i use a different browser, or resolution, they don't then line up.
 
Anybody got any comments or anything i can change to make it better?

it looks a bit... well... cliche. The grey looks really bland and the typography could be greatly improved. Also, as a suggestion, you should have some sort of visual feedback on the nav buttons (a hover effect such as a lighter background

When you say the typography could be improved - what would you do to it?

The grey is opposed to black, as my company colours are black and silver.

You should space out the text and have a larger font. Also, to improve the grey, you could give it a slight gradient to make it look slightly more like metal or silver
 
It needs a logo to make it look less generic.

The main text shouldn't flow under the vertical line at the bottom. The left and right are separate elements.

Talking of separate elements (and I don't want to contradict anyone, but) there is no reason the position of the two vertical lines should be connected.

The big car picture looks like stock photography. Add pictures of real people from this company going about their business. Let me know my car is in good hands.

Those images are one's i've taken - they're of my own work.
 
If you're not worried about dial up users I would increase the image use in the site design. Create an image overlay and use it as the outline of the content. I agree, the site is very "simple" and "plain". The business the site is advertising requires more flash (not the app) and less simplicity (looks like a news site.).
 
Oh! Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they aren't good pictures. They are. That's why I thought they were stock photos. Good enough to be offered to the world at large. What I meant was, they don't show anything specific to that company. It would be better if they showed the company at work - if they were about that company and not about BMW. See what I'm trying to say?

So it'd look better if i got some pictures of myself actually detailing. I'll try to get some pics of me actually machine polishing, claying, etc at some point then.

When you say it requires more flash etc, do you have any websites you've come across that have a good template you could link to here, so i can see?

That's what I mean. In fact, pictures of the process you go through would be good, with an explanation of each.
 
I've got a few images of me in action now, as i had a detail yesterday. I'll get some up as soon as i can, but my web designer is currently unavailable.

It does need a splash of texture but it's a nice site. I like how your animated scene there isn't flash nor gif, is that a slide show playing there? The page loads very quickly so I was wondering about the set up of the image scene there.

It is indeed javascript. I intentionally asked my designer not to use flash, as I wanted the site to be as fast loading as possible and be able to be viewed on anything. Ive got an iPhone and that doesn't support flash (yet) so I wouldn't be able to show potential clients my site while I'm out and about, whereas with javascript I can. ;-)
 
My only complaint would be that the header and the graphic of the car take up a lot of real estate. You're halfway down the page before the nav links are found, and further until you get any actual content. I would suggest combining the header and auto graphics on the same level somehow. But it's just a personal thing.

I'll see if we can get the images wider and entire site wider an incorporate the header inside the images then. That way I'll have both, the header and images in one. Could even still have the javascript scrolling images, if I make sure the images scrolling have header on.

Thanks for the ideas guys, this is really helping. :)
