Website linked to email loads very slow or even stop loading

It seems odd that being linked in email makes it very slow... what happens if you click a link from a google search for the same web site? Is that slow, too? Maybe it is just a very underpowered or overwhelmed web site. Are other complex web sites loading fine?
It's very hard to tell which question you're answering, so perhaps you could add details? Some declarative statements like:
"All web sites are slow, regardless of whether I initiate from an email or from the browser address bar." Or "This one web site xyz.com is slow when I click on it from an email link, but when I type xyz.com in the address bar it loads quickly." Or "The front page of macrumors.com seems to load fine (quickly)." Stuff like that.
