By accident I stumbled upon this website offering to sell a software to unlock old and new iPhones "soon". Seems like not only regular iPhone users are waiting for the Dev Team to release their new tool. :rolleyes:

What do you think about companies offering paid iPhone unlocks? Is it worth to pay the price and get some sort of support? Or is the open community (like this forum) all the support you'll ever need?

All the paid for services are just repackaged dev team code. Not worth the money IMO but then each to their own. You'll get better/quicker help from all the good people on this forum, I know I have.:cool:
 
IPSF was pretty good and a legit unlock solution that had nothing to do with what other hackers were doing.
 
Well I'm a software developer working for a software development and network solution company.

We are both consumers of "paid service" as well as providers of it. Often times we'll pay "experts" to support free software or their modified variations that provide a more friendly UI. Fact is, our clients have users that aren't tech savvy and We don't have unlimited time.

I mostly do data requests on *their* data. They can do these requests, but they'd rather pay me to do this than to learn it themselves, so they're paying for my service more so than an actual tangible product.

Cliche as it is, time is money. If the company can pay someone $500 to save me 40 hours of work (learning software, testing, troubleshooting) then the company is saving a lot of money.

I can see the draw of a user wanting to just pay $20, downloading an app, clicking a button and being done. And there are others who will spend 40 hours to circumvent that $20 charge. I can see the draw of wanting to understand.

Honestly this last week, due to a friend putting 2.0 on his 2g and giving it to me, I spent 20+ hours trying to get it downgraded and unlocked (I have T-Mobile). I would have gladly thrown $20-50 at someone to unlock the phone for me if it would have cut my setup time by 15hrs.

In the end I just think it's important that people are aware that they're just paying for convenience and support and that this companies software isn't really different than the free version floating around.
