What the heck?!?! I just noticed that one of the hooks that hold the lid closed isn't dropping down when I close the lid over like the other one does. This laptop is only a week and a half old... I called the Apple Store and they said exchanging it would be subject to a 10% restocking fee. They told me to make an appointment with the Genius Bar to see what they could do.

Is this normal? Has anyone ever had this before? And what should I do if they won't help me out? I think it could be a defect - I mean, I just got it and it's been sitting on my counter this whole time. I haven't even taken it anywhere because I don't have a case for it yet...

Arrgh!

Update:

I called Apple and they said to make an appointment with the Genius Bar. I did that and they agreed it was a defective assembly part and ordered a replacement part. It came in yesterday, and I took in my MBP today.

Then three hours later I get a call from the genuis bar telling me they think I should just replace the laptop rather than take the whole thing apart and try to fix it. Unfortunately they called me 15 minutes before closing, and I live 20 minutes away. They want me to come in tomorrow anyway to return everything then sell it back out again so I can get my rebates without a problem.

However, I just realized that day 14 was today.... so I'm really hoping I don't have a problem trying to do an exchange.

Fingers crossed it goes well!

Don't let them charge you the 10% fee. Make sure they don't ask for any more money from you. If they do, just threaten them by saying that there are several lawyers in your family who would only love to help you milk Apple;) JK. If it does come to Apple wanting more money from you, then you should call the better business bureau and 7 on Your Side or something. Those guys can peform miracles just by calling.
