Okay I checked through the master list, and this topic hasn't been used in over two years, so I think it's okay to repeat. Simple task: show me your best or favorite photos featuring windows! Inside or outside, however you interpret it.

As always, standard rules apply:
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Contest closes 5pm EDT July 9, 2024.

Thanks for all the entries this week! Loved seeing all the variety.

@cogi0490 - great use of windows and reflections/mirror to make a very interesting frame. love the hint of the seaside through the window.

@coolguy4747 - a double windowed entry, with the main window reflecting a window from across the street. i like the repetition of the eyeglasses in your subject's pocket vs the ones you are wearing.

@C0ncreteBl0nde - i like the atmosphere from the rain. i am super perplexed as to what is in the left window that looks like the end of a finger though?

@piatigorsky - okay, i did not expect the requiste Windows screen to come from the film guy! funny juxtaposition with the MBA and the Lego windows.

@someoldguy - another double windowed entry - great use of framing. good exposure also in what seems like a difficult lighting situation with the darker foreground and brighter background

@lkalliance - another great use of framing with the window light highlighting what I assume is some artwork on the left wall. this would take some patience to line up just so.

@tizeye - a window with a flowerbox. the key to my heart! a perfect scene

@JapanApple - i have a fascination with taking images of architectural skylights. fun POV.

@oblomow - i like the way you used the window light cascading on the Madonna. Although not a "window" photo per se, the light from that specific window makes the image.

@Chuckeee - stained glass is hard to take a photo of sometimes with the smaller dynamic range of the surroudings. you've done a great job of keeping all the details in the panes here.

@OldMacs4Me - sometimes you just have to take what you can get - the reflection clearly sets the time of year for this image and the sticker the location!

@thirsty_monk - i like the depth you've created in this image with the composition, and the weathered wood works well with your bw conversion

@squawk7000 - i am glad that i don't have to live here because the asymmetry would drive me crazy but the light spill is so beautiful that i'd probably be willing to overlook it!

@_timo_redux_ - another architectural skylight; i like the stairs (I assume) wrapping up the edges to the top floor. this is probably a beautiful space to visit

Okay, I really appreciate every one of you and your entries this week. But because I must, I will give you my top three - I'd love to know which images were your own favorites too!

Speaking of film, I actually did take a photo with a film camera, which I originally intended to do a b&w reverse process, however I think I messed up the bleach bath and ended up with a completely transparent roll of film! And that's a bona fide BSOD in Win XP (albeit in an emulator instead of running natively) that I triggered from the command line, just to add to the silliness.

Thanks very much, @mollyc, great topic!

The wall that the light is splashing across is actually done up as shown below: my wife and I painted that a dozen years ago. The windows and the moon are also over-painted with glow-in-the-dark material. If the wall gets a lot of light during the day, then at night the cityscape comes alive.

Thanks for the recognition. The photo was taken in Yvoire, FR on Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) inside the medieval walls of the original city that provided so many photo ops. As I recall, this was a home above the village square.

I will post a new theme later today, but meanwhile a couple others from Yvoire.

Pfft. You've seen one 600-year-old French village on a beautiful lake that's a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, you've seen 'em all.

I beg to differ. Next time I'm in France, I'm taking along my old 11" MacBook Air with Win XP installed, and see how that shiny BSOD fits into the picture. (I'll see myself out.)

Heh...I had a lot of window photos, but this one spoke to me so I chose it...maybe that was not such a good idea!

As the title on the photo says, this is not rain but a man washing the windows on my third-story apartment windows back approximately 10 years ago. That is also not a thumb, but the window washer's arm and elbow showing the window washers presence in the scene. Goes to show how different photos can be interpreted!

This was another fun topic and I LOVE @tizeye entry. So many great examples of windows. Congrats to the winners this week! Well done.
