↬Directionality↴
the property of being directional or maintaining a direction

Looking for imagery that entails direction.
Whether it's motion, or suggested by your subject, or the movement of the eye looking at the image, or anything else with a directional manner, it's fair game.
In order to avoid overlapping with "go with the flow contest", refrain from posting running water themed photos.
Bonus points if you deliberately break any composition/exposure rules, but not mandatory.
Don't forget to be imaginative. Above are simply guidelines and remain open to interpretation.
Best of creative luck.

The usual rules you need to abide by
· The photographs must be your own work.
· Be creative and have fun.
· You may only submit one photo per contest.
· Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.
· The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!
· At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.
· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
· Winners please update the Weekly Photo Contest Master thread

Causeway to Grain Tower
by Hugh Russell, on Flickr

Grain Tower is a mid-19th-century gun tower situated offshore just east of Grain, Kent, standing in the mouth of the River Medway. It was built along the same lines as the Martello towers that were constructed along the British and Irish coastlines in the early 19th century and is the last-built example of a gun tower of this type. It owed its existence to the need to protect the important dockyards at Sheerness and Chatham from a perceived French naval threat during a period of tension in the 1850s.

Rapid improvements to artillery technology in the mid-19th century meant that the tower was effectively obsolete as soon as it had been completed. A proposal to turn it into a casemated fort was dropped for being too expensive. By the end of the 19th century the tower had gained a new significance as a defence against raids by fast torpedo boats. It was used in both the First and Second World Wars, when its fabric was substantially altered to support new quick-firing guns. It was decommissioned in 1956 and remains derelict today. The tower has been privately owned since 2005 and was reportedly sold to a new owner in 2014 for £400,000.

Cheers :)

"Up" is a direction. Saguaro cactus in the desert, after a storm.

View attachment 736122

Last week in Zion, one of the young guys in the travel party saw some cacti with long spines on it. Round plates with long spines. He immediately did the stupid thing and went to pick one. He didnt know that in addition to the long spines, they also have lots of little, almost invisible ones all over them so he spent the next half hour picking them out of his fingers and moaning about how they sting.

lol... sheesh...

Yep. many members of the cacti/succulent family have fine hair-like spines, called glochids. They are nearly impossible to remove, and maddening to deal with. The prickly pear cactus is a great example of such.

Which part of NJ or Eastern PA are you from? Philly for me, and then after graduate school I had a really horrible job in Toms River for four years.

I'm up in the northeast part of the state , Bergen County . Been there the whole time except for 10 years a while back when I was a bit further out in northern Passaic County .

Nope ... you guys were Shoobies ...

True that...... Loud and proud.
In any case, the locals should not have been insulting all of rest of us in the first place. The entire economy of the Shore communities depends on tourism.
In Seaside Heights, the Chamber of Commerce throws a big party after the tourist season to thank the locals for putting up with the tourists. At an elevation of 3', you have to wonder how it got the name Seaside HEIGHTS. Just sayin'.
I like Southern Jersey a lot, but there is a lot of backwards thinking.
