Since I can remember, I have always been fascinated in how nature somehow has a way of surviving and thriving in the built landscape around us. My first photography book I purchased aged 12 was actually on solitary trees in LA's urban jungle (can't remember the name, will post next weekend when I see it!). Whether it's a blade of grass poking through a crack in the pavement, or one of the huge plane trees we get here in London, it always amazes me how tolerant nature is.

I would like to see how you guys document this idea, that even though we can change the landscape so dramatically, we are still surrounded by things that are alive!

This can also include birds and animals, so I would love to see what you guys can find.

Please feel free to bend the rules if you can argue in your favour that it hits the topic. I know we have some astounding nature photographers here so I'm excited to see what you come up with! A couple lines on where your shot was taken would be ideal, so we can all learn a bit more about your neck of the woods.

Good luck!

The rules are as per normal:

· The photographs must be your own work.

· Be creative and have fun.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

· The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!

· At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Winners please update the Weekly Photo Contest Master thread

This frog comes out onto our decking at night; I've seen it climbing up through a drain pipe gap and disappearing again when disturbed.
There's no pond nearby so I can only assume it gets enough damp conditions from living under there, and plenty to eat from the many woodlice and slugs around the area.

Olympus E-M10 ii, Olympus 12-40mm @ f/2.8, onboard flash and a lot of stealth used.

Cheers :)

Industrial Retribution - maybe not ideal to the challenge brief, but this is a shot from 10 years ago with my 5D mk1 and Sigma 12-24 @ 12mm - what a combo that was! Distortion city though, even after lens "corrections."
This features one of the most interesting places I've ever been, and it was only 3 miles from where I grew up. My family had a lot of ties to the place and I was there again 2-3 weeks ago - it's a shame seeing it all being swallowed up by nature even more now than it was in 2007 when this image was taken.

Yeah, formerly Dunaskin Heritage Museum. It is now the site of the Scottish Industrial Railway Museum. Dunaskin got a lot of funding in the early 00's which did a lot to preserve the site but it only lasted a few years and shut down in the mid 00's. The Steam trains moved from their site at Burnton to the Dunaskin site in the late 00's and continues to run there.
My Nana lived nearby and grew up beside the industry. She tells me how it was back then at the tail end of the industrial era there.
It's a fascinating place - maybe more so for me because my Nana was directly linked to the community there and that my Dad worked in the coal industry at Pennyvenie after leaving school.

I have a slightly amusing story about the day my brother in law and I went to get some pictures... SatNav stitched us up...

Good luck next week BTW... and maybe see you soon... :)

Thank you! I'm putting a post on my fb photo page about the exhibition today and might do a sort of "meet and greet" for an hour or two on the opening day. Some locals have suggested that would be a good idea so might do. If you do decide to come down, let me know and I'll see if I can nip out.
