The theme this week is when the photo subject is out context with expectations. It is a broad subject but something out of the ordinary. Photo examples below, but use your imagination.

What is that fork doing in the middle of the lake?

Inoperable gun making a statement?

Watch out for the dinosaurs - and they are reproducing!

I'm in a dogfight in vintage planes - Texan T6 - that existed before I was even born. (Actually, that was a lot of fun and first time I flew a taildragger controlled with a stick.)

Thanks for participating. Now closed for entries and will report back later today. Have a photo shoot for a Realtor client in a couple of hours, so need to complete that first.

Thanks everyone who participated and submitted the 9 entries. It is always difficult to choose a subject, but even more difficult to give feedback and rank and ultimately choose the top three. I will try my best to give feedback.

First, a prolog of the 4 photos I used as examples. The fork in the lake is along the shores of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) at Vevey, CH. It was the one that gave me the idea as totally unique and unexpected. Apparently, the sculpture was planted in the lake as part of a cutlery convention without any permits. The government forced its removal, but the townfolk loved it creating a mini-revolt, ultimately securing its return. The second photo is a few miles west along the same lake at the Olympic Museum. The gun sculpture with the barrel in a knot is a statement reflecting some of the violent events at some Olympics. Back to the States for the final two. Dinosaurs are a traveling exhibit set up - usually annually - at a local Gardens. Other times it is other themes, such as giant insects. It is unique walking through the gardens and coming upon dinosaurs, dragons, insects or what ever that is not at all natural to the gardens. Finally taking to the air in a vintage plane. This was actually a Christmas gift from the family (Groupon special). What I found unique - and you see it in movies - The plane has to zig zag to taxi. Being a tail dragger, the engine is up high and you can't see forward, thus the zig zag for vision to taxi as straight line and line up on the runway. That shot was actually a video frame capture with the camera set up on the floor.

Now to the entries...
@Chuckeee Great - Sculpture in line with the topic. Certainly, one of the last things one would expect. Nicely framed and retained the background for context.

@piatigorsky - This one takes lot of study. Presume that it is a double exposure as shadows would have been dark without detail. And then there is the detail where the images in the mirror are different from the external images. Matching up the wavy hair subject and the short cropped hair subjects, at least they are on the same side...but their clothing is totally different. Nicely done.

@Strider64 - Interesting use for a dial up phone. Suspect there is a story behind it but not really certain of "Telephone of the Wind" caption other than blown away and no longer exist.

@CooperBox - Bust raised on a multiple pedestals. Guessing that is a university or Cultural Center in the back which gives context to the display and prompts insightful reflection. I may be wrong and would love to hear detail which set up the photo.

@C0ncreteBl0nde - Have you been watching me packing my grandson to smuggle him on the flight home? Nice Photoshop (or specialized ap) joining two subjects together. Love the impact statement that people don't anticipate. While I can't find the ap anymore, I did a similar concept - frame on wall and alligator stepping out the frame - always a conversation piece with the unexpected.

@oblomow - Interesting. Guessing it is a snowed in bike stand...but then footsteps rather than tire tracks coming from it.

@coolguy4747 - Party! A small back yard and the last thing one would expect is a school bus, or "cheese wagon" as my kids called it, next to the pool and outdoor kitchen. Have to wonder how it got there as little room to maneuver. Sadly, had similar in the news this week where school bus driver lost control and crashed into a house. Noone injured, but the driver was fired.

@mtbdudex - Scratching my head as assume the audio equipment is not intended as part of the photo, and I won't turn this political and refer to them as "Tourist". Excellent photo documenting reporting on a historical event as it shows the unexpected where would normally expect tourist being ushered in.

@Apple_Glen_UK - At first glance I was thinking Lego's since it is the Luigi theme, then a second look after reading the caption, nice sculpture with stamps. Actually, I may have used some of those stamps unless they are timeless and simply update the price. Very well done and unexpected. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that those cars are going the wrong way down the street! (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Congratulations to all...now the hard part.

Thank you for your comments.
My photo shows the Consell General, the seat of parliament, a state-of-the-art building located in the historic center of Andorra la Vella. The official name of the country is the Principality of Andorra, a landlocked country in the eastern Pyrenees borderd by France and Spain. A fascinating location. We make a trip there by car usually once a year.

With ref to your comment on Apple_Glen_UK's photo, unless I'm mistaken surely the cars are going the correct way down the street! In the UK one drives on the left-hand side of the road, which traditionally is the safest way........;)

Thanks for the honor. Behind the bus is a 20ish-foot long sliding door from the street to the back yard, alloweing plenty of bus clearance. We got it to convert into a somewhat simple camper. Luckily, no crashing for this bus or house.

I purposely included in my photo - photodocumentary - the setting I took it in, my home on Jan 6, 2021.
Yes - it's supposed to evoke thinking, rationale discussion, etc.
Back then I posted the photos I took while watching from my family room with this.

This from 2 yeals later Jan 6, 2023 status, put in spoiler tags to not overload this thread
2 years later ..
An investigation was launched by a House select committee to look into the attack—the investigation ended in December 2022 and the committee has since been disbanded.
The committee’s final report accuses Trump of inciting the riots in response to the 2020 presidential election and encouraging rioters to “overturn” the vote, the report also recommends Trump be barred from political office in the future, and recommends the Department of Justice pursue criminal charges of Trump because of his involvement.
A majority of Congress have spoken out against the insurrection, and even Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who were both openly critical of Trump.
HOW MANY WERE CONVICTED OF SEDITION
Stewart Rhodes, the founder of right-wing militia group Oath Keepers and Kelly Meggs, the leader of the organization’s Florida chapter were both convicted of seditious conspiracy (the agreement between two or more people to overthrow the government) in November 2022 due to their roles in the insurrection. Three other leaders and members of the organization were charged with other federal offenses and were acquitted of the sedition charges. This marks the first time in over two decades that the Justice Department has found someone guilty of sedition; less than 12 people have been convicted of this crime.
HOW MANY CHARGES IS TRUMP POTENTIALLY FACING
Four. In December 2022, the January 6 committee referred Trump to the Justice Department and recommended four charges: obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the U.S., inciting an insurrection and conspiracy to make false statements. This is the first time in history members of Congress have recommended a president for criminal prosecution.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE CHARGED
978. According to a Department of Justice database, there have been about 978 people charged and arrested with multiple crimes related to the attack. The median age of the defendants is 39, with over 86% identifying as male and the majority coming from Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and California, according to George Washington University's Project on Extremism.
WHAT HAVE THEY BEEN CHARGED WITH
Some of the charges include obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds and forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding federal officers. There have been rioters arrested in “nearly all 50 states,” and over 260 of them have been charged with more serious crimes relating to assaulting or impeding law enforcement, according to the DOJ.
HOW MANY HAVE PLEADED GUILTY
465. About 465 rioters have pleaded guilty and entered into plea deals. The charges they’ve pleaded guilty to include assault on law enforcement and obstruction of a civil proceeding. John Schaffer, a lifetime founding member of the Oath Keepers, was the first to enter into a plea deal and faces up to 30 years in prison, according to the DOJ.
HOW MANY HAVE BEEN SENTENCED
335. According to the DOJ, about 335 people have received sentencing in relation to the January 6 attacks, and approximately 185 have been sentenced to time in prison. Florida resident Paul Hodgkins was the first person federally sentenced in relation to the attack. He received eight months in federal prison and two years of supervised release.
HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SUBPOENAED
Over 100. The House committee overseeing the January 6 investigation has issued over 100 subpoenas to people including members of Congress like then-House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, White House officials like former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and former chief of staff Mark Meadows and Trump himself. The committee has also issued subpoenas to multiple companies like Reddit, Meta and Twitter where it’s suspected communication regarding the riot took place.

Thanks for the podium finish. Yes, it is indeed a double exposure, which is quite a laborious process to do on a Hasselblad: it involves inserting the dark slide metal plate, detaching the film back, cranking the advance knob, reattaching the film back, and finally removing the dark slide. When the lady in the white dress came in front of the mirror, I had only a split second to decide whether or not to push the shutter—and I'm glad I did, I think it's the most interesting picture I've taken with the Hasselblad. Naturally I went into the darkroom and made prints for all of the ladies in the picture.
