Hi and welcome to this weeks contest.

The theme is ‘Elements’. What I would like participants to think about is four classical elements - Earth, Water, Air (Wind), and Fire.

Choose any three of those mentioned and demonstrate them all in a single photo. Impact of each element, or interaction of elements, or each element itself must be clearly visible (e.g., you cannot simply post a picture and say that there is invisible air present in the background).

*Sun and sunlight is considered ‘fire’ as well.

Please remember that these standard rules apply:
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced. In keeping with our most recent tradition, violators may be awarded first place. Henceforth this shall be known as the Molly-ing rule in honour of our friend and fellow perpetrator.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, please check the title or description.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest ends on April 27 at midnight CET.
Have fun!

Thank you again for submitting all the great photos.

@Fravin This is something I expected and wanted to see from this contest after alowing sunlight to represent the fire. Very nice symmetry, reflections in the water.

@TheYayAreaLiving ? Excellent colors in the sky. I wonder whether the image is stright out of camera?

@imac wannabe Nice macro. There might be something something ‘behind’ the photo, something I do not discover easily, however, I seemingly notice only element of fire there. In any case - nice picture. Thank you!

@mollyc Similarly as in the first picture - Water, Earth and Fire. All according to the rules, and very nicely done. I like colors, reflections, and general composition in the image.

@tizeye Earth, Water and ‘the Wind”. The Wind (impact) is definitely the dominating element there. I wouldn’t want to be in that location when that happened :)

@CK Williams This is definitely Art :) I like it. Was it a specific setup for some project? I see Fire, Air (nicely). However, cannot discover the third element easily.

@beach bum Daylight moon photos are great. If I understand correctly, moon is ment to be ‘Earth’, trees - Earth as well. I can only imagine the Air and maybe Wind.

@OldMacs4Me Excellent idea and thought along the rules. Wind, Fire and Earth. Mountain line in the background adds to the inage and further highlights compositulion.

@Darmok N Jalad Wery interesting abstract idea as well. I note earth (trees in the background), and interaction between the Water (Soap bubble) and the Air. Great!

@someoldguy Another interesting idea of ‘integrating’ Water in a form of mist in the scene! Another good picture!

@Janichsan Something in the composition makes good feeling about this image. Elements are in place. Colors nicely match, and the distant Church gives an additional impact. Do I correctly see frost and not mistaken it with something else? Just as a side note - Maybe sticks across the image distractts it slightly, however, nicely done.

And the awards go to (Sorry that there are only three - would have wanted to give more :)

1st and overall winner in the contest this week - @OldMacs4Me. I really like the feeling of the image and the idea behind it.

2nd place and also special ‘Creativity award’ - @Darmok N Jalad Creativity is very important to my idea behinf the photography.

3rd place - @mollyc As noted before - symetry, colors, and the scene makes this image stand out.

Thank you all again and my appologies in case I did not notice some Element.

Next round over to @OldMacs4Me then!

Tanagra (not really)
Thanks for the mention and placing. For mine, if I were to get really sciency, I would make the case that perhaps the “earth” component can also be found in the wall of the bubble, as I’m sure some earthen materials are found in the soap. Water is obviously required, and the air is inside the bubble, as well as the wind moving it along. Finally, the sun is flaring off the bubble’s surface. I guess technically you only asked for three, but I thought it was a fun idea for a comp, and to try to get all four!

Thanks for the response Susurs and nice job on the contest! This was a training fire for an investigations class I helped with (in my former work life). The third element is the water drops from the sprinkler system keeping the roof from warping but they were out of focus unfortunately.

Oh, thank’s for the explanation! For some reason I have then perceived them (Water) as some particles coming from the fire. But nicely done in any case! Great picture! :)
