We had so much fun when I chose "Starts with P" and got such a great diversity of photos that I thought I'd try another take on it with a different letter. I asked my daughter to name a letter of the alphabet (she didn't know why) and she choose "C" so here we are.

Any subject that starts with C or any photo that displays an emotion (such as "compassion" or "comedy") is fair game. Knock yourselves out, I can't wait to see what you post! :)

The usual rules apply:

  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest ends on February 27th.

C'mon folks...contest closes tomorrow. This is an easy one; lets see your C photos!

Contest closed.

Wow! Five new entries since I left my message yesterday; that's fantastic! I'm currently working on the reviews and judging so I should have results up this afternoon (afternoon on the west coast of the US where it is now 10:30 am). Thank you all for entering your wonderful photography!

Oh, man...I'm so excited we received 15 entries for this contest, but you guys really made it tough on me! I know, I know, I asked for it sooo...here we go!

@goldmac2006 - Catcus. An obvious "C" word and so pretty. I'm so tired of bleak winter and cold and WIND that the splashes of red warm my heart. I'm trying to figure out where the light source is on this shot as the shadows are all over the place and a bit harsh. It's otherwise a lovely photo and definitely fits the theme for this week.

@Snowlover - This is a very cool photo. I like its uniqueness and the textures of the clasp and the wood background. The subject isn't in the middle of the shot which adds interest and I love how the clasp is sharp, but it fades out to blurriness. Very well done!

@oblomow - I was going to guess 'Cathedral Ceiling" before you added your title; either way a great "C" combination and a striking photo. I love the rich colors and the light. The POV is excellent! There's so much to take in I've had to study it several times. This not only is a perfect photo for this contest's theme, but a lovely work of art anytime. I've enjoyed viewing it.

@Chuckeee - Wow! That's a lot of water craft and a lot of "C" words for this weeks theme! I was confused exactly where the casino was so I Googled it and now I see it. Were you in a boat when you took this? All the different sizes and types of boats are interesting to me. I don't know much about boats, but I can see speed boats, sailboats and big yachts. Another photo I spent some time studying. Nice capture.

@piatigorsky - It's funny to me that I was just CERTAIN we'd have at least one CAT photo, but instead we had zero and we got 'canines." They are indeed cute and the sun/shadows add interest to the image. I like how the dogs are completely in the shade except for the sun shining right on the little dog's tail. A very interesting entry which is what I love about doing such a diverse theme.

@coolguy4747 - Super cool shot! I love the colors and the subject and how a lot of the carp have their mouths open. I love how you filled the frame with the fish and the reflections in the water. I don't know what else to say about this image but it was a great choice for this contest!

@lkalliance - I remember this photo from another contest (I believe it was the first "green" theme from last year.) I loved it then and I love it now. The expression on the adorable little girls face is priceless. (I would be doing the same thing if I was in that chair!) Another "C" word you could have used was "cautious." It's a great capture and really conveys emotion.

@Strider64 - While this isn't an abandoned room, the photo reminds me of the photos I fav on Flickr of abandoned places (I have a "thing" for them). "Construction" could be another C word to use for this shot since we can't see the cabinets, HOWEVER, I like how you stepped out of the box with what you've done here. Looks like you have your work cut out for you; are you doing it alone? I'm sure it will be beautiful when it is finished and I DO like this photo.

@kendallm - I'm really loving this capture. Not only is the C tie-in very different but it's a great image. Love the lights in the darkness, especially the white bulbs criss-crossing above. Love the reflective shine on the colorful letters and the couple walking down the middle of the street - well, I can't imagine this photo being what it is without them. The golden glow on the left hand side is so pretty too. REALLY nice photograph.

@CooperBox - Being an afficionado of vintage Macs myself (when I lived in a larger home I had 16 Macs of various types and ages and they all booted and ran) I am very fond of this photo. I like that you chose "companions" instead of the obvious. Nice, clean, and sharp image...good light and excellent subject. (I still have a TAM and a 2004 iMac like yours). Really nice entry.

@_timo_redux_ - What a great crazy photo! I hope you will give us a little back story when this is finished. I'm not sure what's going on but it looks like a play of some sort. Good work getting such a bright, sharp image at night. Love the colors and the scene; especially fond of the little tea lights/candles around the headstone and going up the steps. Nice work.

@arkitect - Great macro shot of the bottle neck/top/clip with the colorful bokeh behind. I'm always jealous of artists who can get bokeh like that because I struggle to do so. I love how the bottle is lit from one side and we have the darkness on the other. Makes me wonder what the conditions were when you took this photo; please share. Excellent photography.

@Madonepro - Welcome to the weekly contest; I haven't seen you here before but I'm not exactly an old timer. I love your title for this bright photo as these birds certainly would be CONSPICIOUS in the plain gray branches of this tree. Beautiful birds. The way the birds cross as well as how the tree crosses really ties this all together very nicely. The green background is perfect behind them. All in all a great photograph. Thanks for entering and sharing with us.

@thirsty_monk - I really like the names y'all have come up with for your photo to tie them into the C theme such as using "companions" instead of the obvious "computers." Labeling this photo as "Cold" really made me focus on the photo in a different way as it certainly looks cold! The black and white is genius as it wouldn't convey the same cold feelings if it were in color (the same way a shot of a cabana next to a paradise pool wouldn't work in B&W as well as it would in color). The angles are great and the trip of people in the snow really adds to the shot. Love it.

@Flowstates - Another lovely ornate ceiling shot that makes me wonder if it, too is in a church. I love the different POV and the way the windows are lit but beneath it are dim. That certainly adds interest to the shot. The way the photo is taken shows that you are a true photographer and not just a tourist. The lattice on the windows reminds me of lace on a garment. It's a lovely shot. I'd also like to welcome you to the contest and hope that you will continue to enter your excellent photography.

Before I announce the winners, I'd like to say that after reading through what I just posted, I tend to make a bit much of how the photographs fit with the theme instead of the photograph itself. I apologize for that...I do NOT think this is the greatest theme to be on MR and shame on me if I come across like that.

Also, I'm not just blowing smoke when I say the judging was H.A.R.D. I went back and forth between several choices and then ended up giving the podium spot to a totally different photo. I don't like ties and don't use them, but it there was ever a time I was tempted to do so, it was this contest. Every photo was a winner. Please take a moment and tell us a little more about your shot as it's always interesting to hear the story behind them.

Thank you so much for your participation and entries.

3rd Place: @oblomow

2nd Place: @coolguy4747

1st Place: @kendallm

See you next week!

Thanks, bud, for the positive vibes. I really appreciate it. The photo is actually a sunlit photo I took when I visited my aunt’s house. It had a beautiful backyard garden, and I was taking a break from the sun on my old iPhone XR. I thought I might win first or second place, but it’s okay. I’m looking forward to the next contest.

Thanks for the spot, and kind words as always. This was taken at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Phoenix, AZ. You can buy little bags of fish food to feed the koi, and this is what happens when you do - a complete frenzy. It's honestly a little frightening! I only went a couple times, but it's probably one of my favorite places in the city. Very beautiful and peaceful (aside from the fish feeding frenzy...).

Wow, thank you! I really appreciate the kind feedback and the podium placement!
I've only been learning photography for a year so I never imagined I'd place 1st against all the wonderful photographers here!

I'll get the next contest posted tomorrow.

Congrats to @kendallm! I look forward to seeing what your competition will be.

@C0ncreteBl0nde Thanks for the great critiques. They are always interesting as we all have our own perspectives.

You asked about my photo:
It was just a chance shot — the bottle was on a table by the window and there was a city night view behind… No thought put into it.

For me serendipity is the real genius oh and the vintage Ricoh XR Rikenon 50mm F1.7 did the rest. 😀
