Thanks to those that took the time to submit a photo. I'll do my best to judge

AlexH: I like the symmetry and the reflection. Someone once told me the piano is the ultimate instrument. "It's like a symphony at your fingertips". B&W treatment works well here.

MacRy: I love the sound of vinyl. The whole process is very therapeutic to me. Flipping through covers with FULL size artwork and of course the sound. Nice composition and reflection . Better than my shot. I like the boheh and the red really pops.

Illuminated: Always wanted a drum kit as kid. I like the composition and how you can see the whole kit. White background looks "pro" to me :)

pmx: Nice. another "pro" shot with the white background.

Soul: I was hoping for some cool shots of street performers but this one doesn't do anything for me. Sorry.

E3BK: I really like this one. B&W is great choice.

Winner: E3BK
2nd: Illuminated
3rd: MacRy

Thanks @rx7dude! I think I got lucky with a smaller group to choose form this week. Whew!

And congrats to @Illuminated and @MacRy! I also really loved @AlexH's photo with the reflection of the book. Really wonderful shot.

I'll have a new one up by tomorrow sometime!

Lovely shot E3BK! Congratulations on the win, and to Illuminated and MacRy as well. Some good shots not placed as well so no need to be modest! In the end, you have to choose three and it's not easy.

Congrats to the winners. You mentioned street based performers and I was going to go with one of these:

I've never placed before! Thanks!
That photo is actually part of a bigger series, in which I work with drummers from all over and take photos from above. :)

Great topic for a contest, @rx7dude.

Must say I absolutely loved @MacRy's shot - the vinyl, needle, bokeh, classical atmosphere were all brilliant - that is a shot worthy to grace the bedroom or study walls of an art student, or a student of the humanities as a poster. And it worked far better in black and white, - the topic seemed to lend itself best to that. Actually, @MacRy - the shot you submitted was better by far than the street musicians you posted later.

Of the shots of street musicians, @E3BK's shot was really excellent - the only one which really worked. Great picture.

I also liked @AlexH's piano and music notes - very nice composition - and @Illuminated's drums which were striking and visually arresting. But @MacRy's shot blew me away - that is good enough to be reproduced commercially. Terrific shot.

Thanks so much @Scepticalscribe. You always provide such excellent commentary on these weekly contests and I know everyone appreciates it. And I totally agree on your take of @MacRy's photo!

Thank you for your kind words.

Actually, I would like to enter some of the competitions sometime, as I find them both interesting and instructive; unfortunately, my camera - a veritable but gorgeous piece of engineering - still runs on film, and I have neither a scanner, nor access to someone who will be able to develop them quickly. Such is life.

Your picture was lovely - it was clear that the kid (and I loved that he was black, a normal kid, the sleeves of the pullover coming over his knuckles) was so focussed on drawing music from his instrument (great to see a violin, not an easy instrument to play well - and I love classical music) that he didn't even know he was being photographed. Lovely shot and terrific composition.
