This weeks theme : “ It’s a small world”.
Let’s see everyones macro shots, Bugs, tiny flowers, tiny inanimate objects - whatever catches your eye.

Contest ends August 1 at 5pm Pacific time.

Please remember that these standard rules apply:

  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced. In keeping with our most recent tradition, violators may be awarded first place. Henceforth this shall be known as the Molly-ing rule in honour of our friend and fellow perpetrator.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, please check the title or description.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

I'm sorry, help me? Can you tell me what this is a picture of?
it's an egg . More specifically , an egg of Fundulopanchax gardneri from Akure , Nigeria . Raising them in one of my aquaria . The egg is about 3-4 days old , at the top , you can see the beginnings of eye formation . There's a rudimentary heart and the beginnings of circulation visible (but not in my image). The stuff that is attached to the egg in the upper left is just floating junk that adhered to the egg and has no purpose in its' development , the egg membrane being somewhat sticky . Maybe another 4 days or so until hatching .
Taken with a Canon SL2 on a 1950's Unitron microscope mounted via a Pentax M43 microscope adapter and a cheap M43-EOS converter . Tethered to a 15"MBP. 20x magnification . Converted to B&W via Silver Efex to pick up details .

Thank you all for participating in this week's photo contest.
Great entries from all made my first time judging more difficult than expected!

My thoughts / impressions :

@mollyc; Yarrow flower, yes? Sweet and subtle, gives me a soothing, dreamy feeling.

@‪Raymond32‬: MR & Contest newbie, welcome. I see here tools for exploring a small world. Like the composition and tonal contrast.

@tizeye : Nice non- macro take on a small world. Love the subject, composition and tonality, very endearing.

@Darmok N Jalad: Right on point. Great view of bee's pollen gathering world on a sunflower.

@TheYayAreaLiving 🎗: Takes me right into the world of these colorful little flowers - cheery and delightful. Feel like I'm in another reality when I look at this.

@Strider64: Another non- macro take on a small world. Like the textural contrast between the adorable chipmunk and the stump.

@someoldguy : Talk about a small world! Intriguing , love that I can see the fish developing in the egg.

@thirsty_monk: Like the color, textures and fascinating Tiki face-like markings on the beetles. Also like the blur that sets off the bark "channel" that they are in.

And here are my top three :

Third place - @tizeye

Second place - @thirsty_monk

And the winner is - @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗

Congratulations !

This is one of the most adorable images I have ever seen. Every single bit of it is so photogenic!
Thanks. It was taken in Lutry, Switzerland. Year prior was a maternity shoot with my daughter. Returned a year later for a "re-shoot" and had this 1 y/o exploring everything. Actually, it is where our favorite crepe restaurant is, so any excuse to go back. Very traditional crepes by the French owner, served with traditional cider (followed by desert crepes with coffee). Getting hungry just thinking about it.

Also in last month's POTD posted his squatting and looking through a glass door at a cat. That was from our table in the courtyard outside the restaurant.
