It's summer in the Northern hemisphere, like many here I'm fascinated by "Natures Big Summer Show"
What is that? Could be;
lightning capture (single strike or composite ok), ominous cloud front before a storm, a post storm rainbow , raining, etc ...
If you don't have one in your collection, get out there and capture one for this!

As always, standard rules apply:

The photographs must be your own work.

  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Contest is closed, I’ll judge soon

EDIT: well "soon" became later than I hoped, judging now Saturday 6/27 4:30pm EDT
Edit2; wow, storm at 5pm, lost power, it came back 5 minutes later, only to have fire trucks and electrical people a few houses down. Turned out a tree landed on lines, lines stayed hot, arcing line caught tree / vegetation on fire ... so now back to finish judging 7:40pm. Our home is on a separate branch that the ones with the bad luck

Thanks for the bronze, congrats to iPhone-Guy and C0ncreteBl0nde.
Nope, these thunderheads that we get rarely turn to storms, just occasional thunder.
Unlike other areas in the southwest, socal monsoon season doesn't produce any rain.

Interesting and challenging topic, @mtbdudex, thank you for setting it and for your thoughtful judging.

I absolutely loved @C0ncreteBl0nde's shot, - compelling, powerful, and beautifully composed - and was (privately and secretly) hoping that she would take the top spot with this competition; am also very taken by the shot submitted by @mollyc, - I love both the composition and the wonderfully (seasonally apt) colours; actually, my mother would have loved that image, theme, composition and colours.

Thanks for the podium mtbdudex! Congratulations to everyone else as well! In response to your question we did drive directly into it, always exciting for me riding into a storm like that. Emphasis on RIDING, I hate driving in heavy rain 😅
