This weeks topic is signs. They're all around us but they are not always man-made. So let's see what catches your eye. Be it a clever billboard, something nature created or whatever else triggers your shutter.

Contest ends @ 8PM MDT on June 28, 2022

Please remember that these standard rules apply:
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced. In keeping with our most recent tradition, violators may be awarded first place. Henceforth this shall be known as the Molly-ing rule in honour of our friend and fellow perpetrator.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, please check the title or description.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Thanks to everyone who entered. Everyone managed to follow the topic. Composition can be challenging when photographic signs. Some of you did better than others.

Judging was entirely arbitrary but I tried to give equal weight to composition and topic.

@Strider64
Fairly good composition but I think it would have been improved had the camera been a bit further to the right capturing more of the sign.

@TheYayAreaLiving
So so composition but the sign really does catch your attention. Is that a solar installation?

@oblomow
Solid Composition and on topic. I have no idea what the signs say.

@mollyc
Certainly on topic in a non-sensical way. Gave me a good chuckle.

@tizeye
A bit weak compositionally, but again gave me a good chuckle.

@Hughmac
A different approach but still on topic. Solid photo.
FWIW When I mentioned natural signs I was really thinking of a big pile of bear scat with a couple of little silver bells in it: “Grizzly bear in area.”

@someoldguy
Again solid all the way around. I think it could have been improved by having the sign offset somewhat to the left.

@Allyance
Definitely produced a laugh.

@Janichsan
Again a solid image and again I have no idea what the signs are saying.

@nekonoshucchou
Welcome aboard. Solid composition though the horizon line feels slightly tipped. Scanned from an old slide?

@koolmagicguy
Another fresh face. Welcome. I like this photo with one small nitpick. You did not quite capture the bottom edge of the door. I suspect that was a combined limitation of the lens angle and how far back you were able to get.

So here is the podium. Lots of room for disagreement on this one, but I’m the one on the hot seat.

Third Place: @Janichsan
Second Place: @Hughmac
First Place: @someoldguy
Congrats to the podium-ites and thanks to everyone

I wanted to recompose the shot, but my fingers were freezing that day even with gloves on. 😂. I had a better picture of a different sign, but there are some pictures you just like for some unknown reason. 🤷‍♂️ I do say there were a lot good images for this contest and congratulations to the winners.

I won !!!??? Well .... here's another nice mess I've gotten myself into . Congrats to those lucky other podium placers .

As an FYI , my shot is the appropriately named 'Teakettle Junction" on the road to the Racetrack in Death Valley (see here : https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/the-racetrack.htm ) (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/death-valley-has-secret-shrine-tea-180958795/)

There's a good chance I'll be incommunicado tomorrow until later in the day , so might not have a new contest up until Friday morning .

Not a great photo, just for laughs. At Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft. Lewis WA.
So, it's a sign of the robot apocalypse?
@Janichsan
Again a solid image and again I have no idea what the signs are saying.
This is in Shinjuku, Tokyo, from 2008, and looks a bit different by now. Of the reflected buildings, the one on the left with the Disney-style castle on top is a karaoke venue, the middle one is an manga and internet café, and the right one is an ad for a chain of 100 yen shops (same a dollar store, but in yen), which actually was in the building I was facing (you can see the actual signs for it in the top right and in part on the bottom left). The rest are mostly brand names.

People tend to think of robots as upright humanoids, or some elaborate machine on an assembly line. These were self powered flat bed carts that traveled a prescribed path to various departments. More like self driving cars.
