With Spring coming to close, it’s time to retrospect on the bounty from Spring by exploring the alternative - Rotting Fruit & Dead Flowers. Taking inspiration from Abraham Mignon and Kathleen Ryan, to comprehend the beauty of nature one needs to examine the contrast - This week theme: Rotting Fruit & Dead Flowers

This subject appears to have been more challenging than I originally considered or perhaps a little too depressing. I do appreciate the work of all of the participants.

@mollyc Appears to be almost a macro lens shot with excellent control of depth of focus. The lack of color in the subject adds to adherence to the intended subject matter, a dead flower.

@C0ncreteBl0nde A trio of dead roses. The blossoms have wilted after blooming and then have dried out prior to just falling away. Brings to mind of have lived a long life before withering away

@piatigorsky A set of flowers that dried out and died blossom before having reached full bloom. An illustration of what “could have been”. The coloring and lighting add an interesting perspective, provides an overall somber impression of the image.

@arkitect A still life that has wilted well beyond the peak of being alive. An interesting play on the whole idea of a still life. Here the vivid colors of the subject provide a stark contrast to the state of the bloom.

@_timo_redux_ Living and dying while in an urban setting. Good use of focus, the dying flowers are clear but the handrails of the homes have just enough lack of focus to still be clearly discernible, but not distract from the main subject.

@oblomow Interesting contrast of the theme. One person's rotten discarded vegetables are choice pickings for another.

While there were just a few entries, they where all very high quality photography and address the theme well. It made selecting winner difficult:

3rd place - @arkitect
2nd place - @piatigorsky
1st place and this week's winner - @C0ncreteBl0nde

Thank you so much, @Chuckeee. A very creative theme and all the entries are of great work. It's a real honor to be awarded first place among the excellent photographers here at MR.

I will have next week's theme up by this evening.

Thanks for another podium finish! I was actually just testing push development on film stock I hadn’t used before, and really liked the colors in this particular picture.

I really enjoyed this theme and certainly did not find it depressing. 🙂

Thank you! That's very kind of you.
