Things are difficult in the present circumstances but there is something we can (mostly) all do: Look Up. Whether it's a Sistine Chapel-like ceiling or the stars in the sky, there's usually something worthwhile to see. One caveat though, NO SUNSET/SUNRISE photos please.

Rules as follows:

· Follow all relevant local laws regarding stay-at-home orders. If you can't go outside, try and take a photo at home or grab one from the archives.

· Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced.

· The photographs must be your own work.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, check the dates in the title.

· At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.

· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Good luck and let's see what your fervent imaginations can come up with.

I'll be first off the line then, with a B&W Infrared shot in a Napoleonic era fort a few years ago...

Made my neck ache taking this ;)

Cheers :)

I can’t upload the picture. The server is retuning 500 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Trying using the site instead of Tapatalk.

Sorry for the delay. Please remember that these WPCs are intended to be a fun and educational way of getting a bit of inspirational photo exercise and that the comments I make are simply based on personal preference.

Here goes then:

@Hughmac : I really like the mono treatment here. Nice tones and good detail and I like the way the light catches the upstairs bannister. Good use of geometry and spot-on theme.

@someoldguy : Antelope canyon? A different take from the usual with the ladder giving a good lead into the photo. Perhaps could do with a slightly warmer colour balance to enrich the shadows? Nice one.

@akash.nu : Beautiful cathedral panorama - these buildings inspire you to look up towards the heavens regardless of your beliefs. What cathedral was this? Nicely composed with good symmetry - difficult to do a shot like this well.

@tizeye : never had the chance to see a launch in Florida. Would loved to have seen the Apollo series...Nicely captured with good exposure in clouds. Like the way the rocket is captured in the window between the clouds.

@oblomow : another piece of art that's designed for looking upwards (see cathedral). Love the simplicity and clarity of this photo and the position you've taken it from. Would have been easy to go for the central alignment shot but this is more interesting.

@Apple_Glen_UK : Don't call for the fire brigade! You've captured a nice action scene coping with a high contrast environment. A good fun photo.

@RogerWilco6502 : First contest entry? If so, welcome. Would never have guessed this to be a cathedral. Nice, strong abstract impression - perhaps worth having a look at a high contrast mono conversion?

@Janichsan : surprised this is the only astro entry. I like the impression that the lit buildings and tree silhouettes gives a sense of scale and just how small we are in the universe.

@deep diver : another very graphic and eye catching shot. Love the colours - the sky and flag blue contrasted with the lines and stripes. Very nice.

@mollyc : my wife certainly wouldn't tire of that view (I'm more of a gloomy cloud guy). Nice golden evening light on the palms to contrast with the blue sky.

1st position : @Hughmac - the moody mono treatment did it for me.
2nd position: @oblomow and @akash.nu
Worthy mention: @deep diver

Thanks again everyone - I know it can be difficult to give this sort of activity any effort in these difficult times but it is a good way of getting a bit of a distraction.

Over to you @Hughmac

Perfect. Thank you for the mention. I'm beginning to think that 3rd is the real winner. 2nd is great but there is still some risk of having to step up. 3rd is completely safe.

We know, of course, that Hugh would never shirk his responsibility.

Congrats to the winners , condolences to @Hughmac . Yup , my entry is Lower Antelope Canyon , the entry ladder right after you pass through the crack in the Earth to enter the Canyon . The only day I ever filled up a flash card . 680+/- shots on a 16 gb card .

Thanks for the feedback and the podium @anotherscotsman

It’s a royal cathedral in Paris.

@Hughmac Someone spoke too soon, eh?!

Congratulations to everyone. A great topic.
