For this weeks contest I have chosen the theme "Neighborhood". Could be yours, could be good or bad but it should reflect what you think about Neighborhoods. Also it would be cool if you take your camera with you when you take a long walk after the turkey during the long weekend and make some pictures that reflect your Neighborhood. Doesn't have to be like this of course. Just a thought.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • Be creative and have fun.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • The contest runs for one week, starting NOW! (see time/date stamp at the start of this thread.)
  • At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

Okay something a little different as I live in (yawn) suburbia. So about a mile down the road is a little cut through I pop through on the way to McDonalds occasionally. Anyway I saw this one afternoon and knew it would look great lit up at night (courtesy of the scrap yards security lighting). So headed back later that night.

Contest is closed. A lot of great pictures this week. Not all convey the topic in a way that I was looking for and maybe I didn't specify it well enough. Anyways here are the winners:
3rd place: IndyDenny
2nd place: GnarleyMarley
1st place: needfx

Overall the judging was pretty difficult because we have so many great pictures. I tried to get an impression which picture would create the association of neighborhood like when someone who doesn't know about the contest view the pictures and I think the one from needfx could do that the most but all winners here and also some of the other pictures could create the "thought" what a neighborhood or similar.

Thanks very much for the top tier placement!
Excellent imagery people, particularly loved @Apple fanboy 's airplane front hull
Will come up with the new theme shortly.
Thanks. Just don't think it really summed up what CmdrLaForge was looking for. Unlike yours. I'm a bit of a whip when it comes to shooting people, so a row of dull looking houses in my neighbourhood wasn't going to cut it for sure.

On a side note, I am wondering if fellow forum members liked my previous approach of evaluating contest submissions. Most probably I will be going about it the same way, but this time will try to include some commentary as well.

Unless of course there is public outcry and forum riots, in which case I will refrain from doing so.

Your previous approach was a great method in my opinion. Very good indeed.

I liked it and thought it was a unique way to look at it when judging is particularly hard.

Though, I doenjoy real commentary & creative feedback on the photos themselves. That was the point of the weekly contest I think - to push each other to improve and not just to win. Constructive and thoughtful peer reviews are what give this particular photography forum a great sense of community and trust.

Providing feedback on not just the top 3 but for as many of the entries as possible helps us all, including the judge. Trying to define what you think is an excellent photograph helps you think about it when YOU'RE making the photograph. Does that make sense?

Anyway, that's what I loved about the forum though we seem to have less & less time for it.

Try to find time to update the Master Weekly thread with your contests though!!! It helps with not having too many similar topics too close together.

Yeah, it is really a great picture of yours, also the one from anotherscotsman I really liked a lot. Just both and many of the other entries would never great the thought "neighborhood" in any way. I mean if someone not aware about the contest in any way - he would think car, beach, hotel, skyline, sunset, night, crowded and so on.

Finally figured out what type of aircraft this is!

Avro 748 or possibly a derivative like HS 748

Tried to figure it out a while back but didn't have any success; came across a photo of one today while surfing the web and recognized windshield configuration as being same as shown in this photo. Probably not of much interest to most but thought I'd share anyways.

Cheers
