I guess that should be an easy one (I think I might regret this...): This week’s challenge is "Feathers and Fur." Anything (or anyone) with any of those two is fair game as a motive.

Standard rules apply:
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest but you can point the members at the internet for a contextual bio image to illustrate your mimicry.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, check the dates in the title.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest ends on November 2nd, midnight GMT. I'll try to give warning before closing. ?

The red panda is waiting for the keeper, probably for food. You would think it was admiring itself in the reflection, but porpoises are the only animal with enough intelligence to realize they are looking at themselves.

Crows, magpies, and elephants also recognise themselves in a mirror.

In this case it's exactly that: food was coming!

I was sitting on my porch one day and saw this guy land on a light pole. A few weeks later, the Division of Wildlife posted a picture of this bird here telling a bit about it on Twitter. I replied back with this photo saying this is the same bird. Just one of those coincidences that happen.

Okay, the contest is closed (well, technically since 8 hours...).

This might take a minute to judge. I will try to be back with the results this evening (CET).

Okay, here we go... I won't give any detailed technical analysis, as I'll try to keep my comments short. I hope I don't sound to brusk.

@katbel Red Pandas are always great. I would have preferred to see it either from the front or with a clearer reflection of its face, though.

@kenoh Fluffnut looks cozy in her den. A nice intimate portrait of her.

@soulreaver99 Wonderful portrait of your cat. While the topic is fur, the picture would have profited from having the focus on its eye and not on the hair in its ear. ;)

@akash.nu A peacock peacocking. Nice shot, but the background is a slightly too busy, so that the tailfeathers on the top get a bit lost.

@stillcrazyman The bald eagle seems to feel disturbed having a snack. I wonder what that was. The fence in the foreground is unfortunately the scourge of animal photography in zoos and similar locations.

@tizeye That's some kind of heron, I guess? Nice shot.

@squawk7000 Another bald eagle, with its keeper this time. Great portrait of both the feathery and the somewhat furry subject. Are bald eagles native to Gran Canaria or has it been imported?

@OldMacs4Me Squirrels are due to their frantic nature notoriously difficult to properly photograph. A great shot which makes me wonder how many unsuccessful pictures we haven't seen. ;)

@Killbynumbers What species of bird is that? Some kind of finch? Nice picture, though somewhat rude to photograph someone shortly after pooping. ;)

@Clix Pix Alfred seems pretty relaxed in your presence and focused on looking for some fish in the water. Wonderful portrait.

@Strider64 Great picture of that hawk having lunch. Is that a wild bird or some enclosure?

@Dockland Is this National Geographic or what? Fantastic picture. I really can't say more.

@mollyc Your dog? It seems to wait obediently for the treats it gets when you finished taking pictures on this nice autumn stroll. ;)

@Darmok N Jalad Damn. That's an amazing portrait of that gorilla. Get this published. Seriously.

@dmb8021 Furry animal eating scaly animal. Great portrait of this otter.

@mackmgg Good action shot of your cat. While the focus is on the feather, the cat is still sharp enough despite the relatively shallow depth of field.

Phew... there were many really great pictures, but some just stood out:

3rd place: I couldn't really decide, so shared by dmb8021 and Clix Pix

2nd place: Dockland

1st place: Darmok N Jalad
