In the other thread I did joke that was going to have you post that photo that you can't bury deep enough to never see the light of day. I couldn't be that cruel. This contest is a variation of that theme. A "Pleasant Surprise" is just that.
1) It was unplanned as part of a photo shoot.
2) Impromptu and thought nothing of it as taken, i.e. pixels are cheap, delete.
3) Then saw it in post and just popped out at you.

While the rules state no discussion, you may need to put a sentence to clarify how the above criteria applies (no extended narrative - showing both as examples below.)

A couple of examples:
Castle narrative: While have been to Castillo de San Marco many time, always plan the same repetitive photos - moat, front entry, mounted canons, firing squad wall, etc - no one ever takes the backside. As I approached from a different angle walking around to the front, there was the backside view, even complimented with a sailboat. Totally unplanned.

Castle sentence: Approached from a different angle providing a perspective I hadn't anticipated.

Bridge Narrative: Was in Lucerne, CH with the iconic wooden bridge a major landmark but it was a lousy overcast day and most daytime photos were blah. That evening, had tickets to a concert at the cathedral and enroute had to take the bridge across the river when stopped to take the shot. If planned, would have taken during the golden minutes, but reality is, the night shot surpassed all of the day shots.

Bridge sentence: My mind was on the concert we were walking to, then this happened enroute.

The UPDATED rules apply:
· Do not comment, vote or react on images prior to winners' announcements, with the exception of a one sentence explanation of your own photo if you feel necessary...but the photo should speak for itself.
· The photographs must be your own work.
· You may only submit one photo per contest.
· This contest runs for one week, if in doubt, check the dates in the title.
· At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 1st and 2nd place remain stranded on the same deserted island somewhere in the tropics. Alien abduction does not excuse you.
· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
-Refrain from bribing the judges to get yourself 2nd place (such as, and not exclusive to: cryptocurrency, gear, forum favors, copyright transfers)
-Be sure to update the Contest Masterlist as soon as you post a new theme.

Philadelphia.
Shooting blind down a dark service corridor of Cleveland’s defunct subway. It was abandoned in 1954.
I tried to make it look like a period image in the way that I processed it.

I was trying out my new Samyang 300mm manual focus mirror lens on the D5200, switched into manual mode and took a shot of the water feature in our garden.
It was a sunny day; the only thing is, I forgot and left the speed set at 1/500 - this is the result, untouched except for a little cropping and 1° of straightening.

Nikon D5200, Samyang 300mm Reflex lens (fixed f/6.3), 1/500, ISO 100

Cheers :)

Was on a mountain hike, just shooting at random. I will purposefully attach the original, unedited picture, which in turn justifies the pleasant surprise aspect. Some of you have already seen the final image.

My photo was just supposed to be a storytelling photo about my kids picking out their doughnuts at a new shop, and only after when I was looking at my photos on my computer did I realize what shirt my daughter was wearing.
