Since I am away from home and will be running/judging this contest on a small screen, i have chosen to reprise the "keep it simple " contest from last January. I want to see images that are as clean and simple as possible; ones that can be viewed and appreciated on a small screen.

As always, standard rules apply:

  • The photographs must be your own work
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

A small format picture for this week's theme: shot with a Pentax Auto 110 on expired Kodak Vision2 50D 16mm film that I reloaded into a 110 film cartridge by hand.

Disclaimer: I have no photographic training and what I'm offering here are just my impressions from viewing the photos. Feel free to take all comments with grain of salt, or ignore them completely.

piatigorsky - The more I look at this image the more it draws me in. Love the lighting from the blocked sunrise and reflections in the water. Gives a nice soft feel of early morning. Don't feel the need to view this on a larger screen.

mollyc - Ready for basketball season!
I like everything about the shot, but this is not what I was looking for in this contest. I do want to check this out on a larger screen when I get home.

C0ncreteBl0nde - A pinch of "clean and simple". Excellent clarity, black background makes the cope tin really stand out.

Chuckeee - Unique rose water tower, on target with the clean and simple. I like this, but the brightness of the background sky makes me want to squint when looking at the photo.

Strider64 - Gives me the sense of light emerging from the darkness. Simple, pure. Very nice.

_timo_redux_ - Sweet little bouquet. Like the lighting/shadow. Black background behind/below the bench(?) really sets it off. I want to see this one on a larger screen.

xodh - cup of coffee. Nice image, looks good on small screen, but I am distracted by seeing the floor off the edge of the table - it keeps pulling my attention away from the cup.

coolguy4747 - nice effect, like the way it feels rounded in 3 dimensions, and how the plant curls around the edge. It could almost be a shadow on the moon. Creative.

chown33 - " Autumn's compliments"!. Love the sunlit golden leaves against the deep blue sky. This is an image that I definitely want to see on a bigger screen, small screen doesn't do it justice.

mtbdudex - " Mountain flakes". I often don't appreciate shots taken into the Sun, but I love how this creates the shimmery silver flakes without blinding me. Also like the look/ feel of this on the small screen.

Apple_Glen_UK - this image also nailed the "simple and clean" request. I like how light radiates out from the hub towards the spokes. Is this a roulette wheel?

lkalliance - Beautiful fall colors and blue sky, but I think it loses the expansive feeling on a small screen. I might have cropped this to remove the white structure on the left .

oblomow - The simple life, yes. A little bleak and cold for me. Like how you caught the shadow of yourself in the image. This one would also view better on a larger screen.

Thank you for your wonderful submissions, they are all winners. But I must choose, so here goes :

Tied for 3rd - piatigorsky & Strider64

Tied for 2nd - C0ncreteBl0nde & Apple_Glen_UK

First place - coolguy4747
