Autumn just struck my part of the world so I'm thinking about change. Take it literally, figuratively, or however else you want. Any definition of the word. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

As always, standard rules apply:

  • The photographs must be your own work
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest ends November 4, 2024.

Okay I guess we’ll consider this one closed! I guess the topic wasn’t very inspiring for too many folks. I’ll be back ASAP with the results.

lkalliance: Love the neatness here. Simple background with subjects that are basically monochrome. With your caption, there's clearly been some physical changes going on. Hope everything is okay. Out of context obviously we've got the quarter for change, but the loose hardware could also symbolize some form of change, whether in new construction, repairs, etc. Nice arrangement of the pieces.

C0ncreteBl0nde: Heartbreaking. So much going on in a fairly simple image. So much change is implied here - before birth, after birth, after passing. Who knows what happened in between all these events. Lovely headstone for a tragic situation.

mtbdudex: A very exciting type of change, though surely not ridden with a lot of mixed emotions. Love the happy face and eager arms. A delightful image of a wonderful moment.

Snowlover: Very cool framing. Makes me wonder how much change is here - could go on for every, hundreds+ of dollars! The circular frame makes me feel like I'm looking into my parents' coffee can of coins from when I was a kid. Great variety of coins - old, new, clean, dirty, all denominations. Nice pops of color.

OldMacs4Me: Lots to think about here! The texture of the surface of the ice, the freshness of the leaves contained within, an unclear depth to the ice - maybe we can see the bottom here, or maybe it goes way down. The bright colors are a great contrast to the muted surroundings and implied dreariness of the frozen expanse.

Q-Dog: I was wondering if someone would have an awesome butterfly photo, and you certainly delivered! Fantastic straight-on angle, with the wings almost looking like sticks. Metamorphosis. Maybe one of the most extreme types of change we have the joy of being able to experience, in many ways. Love the way the butterfly stands out against the soft background.

Thanks everyone for participating! As always, it's extremely hard to choose, but I'll do my best.

3rd: lkalliance

2nd: Q-Dog

1st: OldMacs4Me

Can't wait to see what the next contest will bring!

Thanks for the kind words.

I shot this looking down into a large tub of coins bigger than a coffee can. Just finished putting them all into rolls - the total came out to $86.50. Nice gift from a friend who didn't want to deal with it.

Thanks very much for the feedback and for a place on the podium! You could look at the hardware a couple of ways: change for the worse (both our bodies are changed forever) and the better (we were both repaired by great surgeons!)
