Theme: “Opposites”



This week’s theme is Opposites (anything that highlights contrast or duality.)


Think light and shadow, old and new, motion and stillness, joy and sorrow, nature and man-made.


Show how you interpret contrast in the world around you!


As always, standard rules apply:

• The photographs must be your own work. No AI generated images.
• You may only submit one photo per contest.
• No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
• This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
• At the end of the competition, the judge (last week’s winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
• The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme; after that it defers to 2nd place.)
• Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
• Contest will end October 12th, 2025 at 23:59 UTC.

Thanks everyone for the great entries. It was really nice to see how differently everyone saw the idea of opposites. Each photo had something creative about it, so choosing wasn’t easy.

@goldmac2006 Great contrast in materials and structure. The contrast between delicate wirework and solid beaded shoe is clever.

@edubfromktown Warm sunset tones vs cool sky. The rainbow bridges both sides, turning opposites into a poetic connection.

@C0ncreteBl0nde Innocence vs uncanny. The doll’s childlike form clashed with its odd, mismatched eyes gives a creative, emotional opposite.

@_timo_redux_ Beautiful use of light and shadow. The repetition of faces feels unified, yet the one partially in shadow creates separation and contrast.

@oblomow Elegant and poetic. The bird above and its reflection below perfectly mirror sky vs. water. Subtle yet powerful.

@StrollerEd Strong contrast in color and size. The golden koi stands out calmly among the energetic red fish

@kendallm Life contrast! Those working with the earth vs. those walking away. Rich social storytelling

Simple and beautiful. The natural mirror captures opposites clearly without feeling staged.

Creative and emotional. A smart take on opposites between human and artificial.

3rd - @_timo_redux_ & @StrollerEd

The statue photo stands out for its clean use of light and shadow, while the koi photo captures striking color and size contrast. Both express opposites in strong, visual ways.

Thank you for the podium spot. I agree; I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of images depicting "opposite." A fun theme that I struggled deciding on a photo. Congrats to the other podium winners and to everyone for very creative entries. Looking forward to the next theme @oblomow !
