We've run for quite a long time with the following rules for our weekly photo contest:

Rules:
  • Be creative and have fun.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • The contest runs for one week, starting NOW! (see time/date stamp at the start of this thread.)
  • At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

and one thing we haven't got there, because I assume we've taken it for granted, is
  • the photograph must be your own work

or some variation of this. I'd like to suggest we add this to the list. What do you think?

Ok, makes sense. But that would really make it impossible for me to win.

I thought that would be a given, unless you have some suspicions?

However, perhaps it should be included in the contest and POTD threads.

Cheers :)

Lol... ok conspiracies here we come... yes I thought that was a given too. No issue from me adding it of course but i am intrigued as to why we need to add it? Has someone been naughty and slipped a plant in there?

Yup… good idea for both the contest and POTD . Although now I'll not be able to use stock photos found online using the keyword 'Mediocre'

Uh oh...busted.

Yes ok I admit, I've been stealing last place by using random poor photos off the internet!

Yes agree we should add it just to make sure it's obvious to all.

My, my, what a confident group of photographers we have here!! :D

Are you implying that you've discovered a fraudulent entry in the contest?
Have you seen this post?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this image not stock photography pinched from the net?

Did you take this image? If not, why are you entering it in a competition?
If you did, why is the little girl out of focus, why did you cut dad's hand off and how much do you get from it a month?

I only ask because it looks quite popular. View attachment 636636

I'm for the change in the rules, Ish. Original work and non-commercial only.

Even though there's no financial gain in these weekly comps, it's the comments from our peers I find the most valuable as it helps me improve.

Definitely Ish. Can't believe someone tried that.

I brought it up because I wondered about the picture then discovered that, although it was something we've always taken for granted, it wasn't actually in the rules so someone new could make a mistake. dwfaust has added it to the competition rules.

LOL. .. so funny... I thought someone was knicking my shots!

Someone did that once to me for real and it's annoying. It wasn't just posting it, it was passing it off as his own work and getting congratulatory comments on it that was the worst. On another occasion, though, there was one I thought for a moment might have been mine, it was incredibly similar, but it was taken near Big Ben and then I noticed the time was different!

Must be kind of flattering too to have someone try and pass off your work as their own. Can't say it's ever happened to me,

No danger of that happening to me any time soon.

I support the addition of the "your own photo" rule. We have always assumed this. There were a couple of times, however, that someone entered another person's image. All we had to do was reiterate the the assumption. For the most part, I do not like studio shots in this forum, but they do not violate the spirit of the contest.

I haven't been able to log in for a month or so but this just happened to be the first thread I read.

The non-commercial clause would technically knock me out of it. That would make me sad. :'(

You are crap anyway.... ;-)

Oh behave! I am just JOKING!

No, it is more "Must be your own work" rather than non-commercial...
