Meet Lufi and Pepper!

I chose pets because this is the first time in 25 years that I’ve owned a cat. We decided to adopt one, but we had no idea we’d end up taking home two brothers.

The topic is open to pets you own or any animals you’ve encountered.

As always, the standard rules apply, less the exception above.

  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

I can't help but wonder how close you were to this baby dinosaur. Incredible shot!

This photo perfectly captures typical cat behavior, and the timing is impeccable.

Great shot! I’ve yet to capture something like this myself. You have a keen eye—very impressive.

I apologize for not providing feedback on the other photos. All the entries were wonderful, and I truly appreciate everyone's hard work and creativity.

Take it away @tizeye

Thanks and will have new contest later. About 10-12 feet, no barriers. In a rush now as heading out there heading out there for possible sunrise and will try to take a photo to illustrate the setup of the gator photo.

I'm back. Lousy sunrise as clouds too thick, but hiked back to area where took the gator photo. Obviously used a telephoto lens, but longest I had at the time was a 70-200. In the broader photo, I was on the road with the gator in that water to left. Tighter frame tried to show road track and water. Thanks to the slant down, I didn't have to lay on the ground for eye level, just squat.

With all my trips out there, I have only had two gators growl at me...and I gave them a lot of room, and occasionally will see them laying across the road and I turn around. However, today with the high dew point my glasses fogged up. Twice I didn't see them as I approached and became aware when a loud splash as they escaped from the shoreline to water. It is always good to give them an escape path!
